Stretch177 39
Thanks for the help lads, now its just a case of finding a worker bred dog and tbh a jack russell was what i was thinking of also. Whats the best way of starting them off, is it a case of taking them out and ferreting the holes they are interested in? and them just picking it up once they see the rabbits etc Quote Link to post

gnipper 6,418
Border if you can afford one off the greedy b*****ds that breed them if not then get a nice russel off steady parents. Ferreting for me has never been the same since my old border died. 2 Quote Link to post

Mick C. 229
A leggy terrier will serve the purpose just fine. Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
Terrier blood will also produce a dog that can bush as well as mark Terrier spanial is another handy type for ferreting Quote Link to post
huntmark 18
Terrier beagle cross might also be a handy ferreting partner Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
A good marking dog, puts a lot of Rabbits in the bag, and saves a lot of time. My Whippet X Beddy would mark then wait behind the bury for the bolt and would hold them in the net. If a dig was on, you could watch her slink away, and when you moved on, she would be lying behind the next occupied bury. if she should no interest, you could guarantee the bury was unoccupied. therefore for years of Ferreting, I had no guess work, and was also good for the Ferrets, as every bury they entered, there was action. 2 Quote Link to post

leegreen 2,151
I will put my neck out and say all working dogs couldn be taught to mark, in fact I've seen a couple of non working dogs that learnt the ferreting game. 1 Quote Link to post

Exactly mate, that is the reason i am getting one, saves the guesswork especially if its a big set. Quote Link to post
