Marking Dog

Recommended Posts

What dog would people recommend for just marking sets, no running dogs as the farmers won't allow it. Thinking of a terrier, but unsure which type, although have been looking at a border terrier, mainly due to me liking how they look and reading about there temperment etc. This will be my first dog for working, so would like a breed that is easy to work, calm, good with other dogs and people as it will be in the house. Any help will be greatly recieved.

Regards Stretch

A few people find themselfs in this position i can only use a terrier on my ferreting permissions. ive seen good russells, borders and lakie types mark very well. i use a bedlington very good marking dog, great temperament, lives in.On the stubborn side to train as a young dog but he is obedient and works close.i dont think you could go wrong with any of the types mentioned as long as you put the work in early obedience, socialising, breaking to ferrets stock etc. good luck with your choice.

No sticking down holes or scratching or whining, just one sniff, and if the Rabbit was home she would lie down at the back of the bury, which she is doing in the photograph.

As she was bred the other way round, she has flung to the Bedlington, but still fast enough for them bunnies.

She was a genuine first cross Whippet X Bedlington,

But as you can see, you could just say she was a Bedlington Terrier

How do yu get your digs to mark ?

Any dog will mark burrows , if i dont take the lurcher ,the spaniel or lab will do it , watch what strain of jack russell you go for some are hypo ,and as said dont over praise a young dog for marking as you could cause it to false mark
