I have put my dogs in kennels twice in 30 years odd years: once a VERY long time ago, my Irish Wolfhound bitch, for only 2 weeks: to a reccomended and previously checked out kennels. when I went to fetch her she had pressure sores on her elbows and stank of dog pee and filth: I was only young then and did nothing, more's the pity: if it had happened later in my life I would have sued the arse off the b*****ds.

The second time was for a long weekend at a friend's boarding kennel, and I must say the dogs were fine as the guy was top notch in every way.

I've got too many to afford kennels now, so we seldom if ever go away, but when we do we have a brilliant friend who comes with her lurchers and dog sits the whole menagerie at our house: chickens, canaries, ferrets, terriers and lurchers and elderly cat! She is the only person I would trust with my animals, though I don't leave them all behind: I'd be totally lost without a dog or two with me at all times LOL

Another friend of mine used to dog sit and have dogs in her house: mostly little pet doggies, but had the odd Rottie and GSD too: she's one dog warden that knows what she's doing around guarding breeds, and like ferret 15 said, those dogs just love going to her place: much more interesting a life than sat in their own homes. I guess they appreciate the change: a bit like holiday camp for dogs.
