gnasher16 30,236
Steve collins was like benn and eubanks only he was better than them. But no good to the americans..i liked collins tho.. x 2 !...........Gets better and better this lad. When you look back at the great fighters through history most of them had " a rivalry ".....another opponent/s of the same magnitude Ali/Frazier/Foreman......Robinson/LaMotta......Pep/Saddler.....Hagler/Hearns/Leonard/Duran.....Benn/Eubank etc etc........they made each other.......thats why its so vital during your era at the top to fight the other big names at the top.....by Calzaghe not fighting Hopkins or Jones in their prime and putting more importance on an unbeaten record he waved goodbye to the possibility of a historic rivalry.......Benn could of probably gone a career unbeaten if he chose to go that route but he wanted the best fights out there i remember when he was pleading for the Roy Jones fight he admitted Jones was a better fighter but still wanted to test himself against the best he was willing to go into Jones backyard to fight him at his peak................ Steve Collins the same....very good fighter of his era but unfortunately there was no big rivalries for him or big names out there during his time at the top. Big bald beautiful 1,231
I was there in October 96 when Collins beat Benn in Manchester and Benn called time on his career.good night that, ended up in the hasienda nightclub

We could put you in a ring tonight with Muhammed Ali and there will be a W in your win column...............will people look at that in years to come and say Floyd was a better fighter than Ali........not if they can see further than a list of wins they wont Edited December 15, 2012 by gnasher16
Floyd17586 454
They were all good boxers in europe but imo just not up to the spec of the americans

Didnt say i agreed with the list i was merely pointing out its only us in Britain who see Calzaghe as an all time great fighter.....thats understandable its patriotism.....but its not real !...............................Marciano higher up a heavyweights list maybe but not any weight.....only my opinion like. gnasher16 30,236
Each other for a start !............Benn twice went into the lions den to take titles off world champions on their own patch.................Benn was supposed to fight Michael Nunn, there was issues over money and Benn was told by Don King if you dont accept it and take the Nunn fight we,re going to put you in with " mini Mike Tyson ".....( Gerald Mclellend ).......Benn knew he was being threatened so said " great i,ll fight him then "...............the rest is history.
