are you having a laugh, beats land rovers off road, lets face it frontera, well there pish full stop

Yep if its swb your after and cheap go for the coil springed rear generally 1996 onwards gives a better ride and easier to modify if you need more ground clearance set of mud terrain tyres and your away. If its lwb you can't beat the 2.3td bit noisy and slowish but a great towing truck

Im looking for a cheap 4x4 if ye no of anyone selling lads cheers

Spooky, i'm looking for a cheap 4x4 and found this thread!

You've probably bought a 4x4 now...

Anyhow's i'm on the look out for a cheap 4x4 after getting my 12 plate focus stuck when out shooting :icon_redface:

I tried to get the the Mrs to part with her poxy pug 206 so i could part chop it, but she won't have it!

So i'm thinking of a light 4x4. Something like a Suzuki Vitara or maybe the hated Frontera!! I've had 2. And they were old. Even when i bought them!

My first was a 20i petrol sport on a 93 plate in late 2005. That "truck" was great! Never let me down and was great fun off road! And very capable off road to. I even tried to break it several times over acres of ploughed fields and ditchs but it wouldn't have it. However the mpg was outrageously bad!! 20 mpg at the most! It had very off road biased tyres, which helped. But didn't help when i slid off the road into a very unforgiving lampost.....

I then bought another. A 2.4 petrol long wheelbase mot failure for £50 and swapped over the few parts of my "right-off" needed to get it back on the road. One item being the drivers door due to rust around the hinge point, but being the same colour it was "jobs a good un"!

However, it had the turning circle of a barge and was even more gutless! Sold it in 6 months and went back to a car....

For the price you pay though there a great cheapo 4x4, that saves scratching your car!

Just got to find another!

Disco's are supposed to be good. Never had one myself though. But there are shed loads of uprated parts for them.

I have a mate who bought one brand new in around 1994 for use in his building business. He treated it like shit from day one and it was used most of the time as a van with the seats down or out, i don't recall... He towed huge weights with it.

But he always kept it serviced regularly and he had very few problems over the ten years or so he had it and did well over 150k on the same engine before he chopped it in for another.
