kps1979 1,308
my bitch is as soft mouthed as anything with rabbits, just keeps hold of them with enough force so they dont get away, she is still young too, but she is a different dog when shes gets bigger things, its like she really loves the chase, Quote Link to post
back fill 23
I no what yous are saying lads thanks for the advice you no how it is with pups the more they see the better they get but when u breed some thing and rear it you always have a worry when they are young they are going to turn out the way you want them even though she was bred out off well proven dog. Bosun11 537
BF, the thing is, you should WANT your bitch to fetch rabbits back alive, thats the mark of a good lurcher...!! Remember, with edible quarry a lurcher is a 'catcher', not a 'dispatcher', thats YOUR job...! Personally, you should encourage her to do so and take them off her in a calm and praising manner. She's young and, by the sounds of it, level headed, she knows from that first pick up that they'll offer her no problems and return 'em to you, unharmed. Now.. It'll be a different story when she tackles sommat a bit bigger that will bite back... And whether she kills her bunnys now or brings 'em back alive, this will be sommat else to her and, i'm sure if she's bred right, she will act accordingly... Tell me, what could be better than a dog that can fetch bunnies back alive an unharmed and then rage hell and kill a fox...? The best fox dogs I have both seen and owned fetched rabbits and hares back alive and changed their attitude with the quarry... Treasure this, it's a good dog that can do this... Quote Link to post
