Bolting foxes with terriers is no different from ferreting!! Bolting them from drains too DOES NOT rest a dog,its pathetic, yes sometimes they do bolt before your dog gets up close or they give your dog the runabout and bolt, but the whole intention is to dig and test your dog,an out and out bolter would find itself packing and leaving the kennels........be perfect for them stupid yanks eh brightmoore??

anyone with a lot of ground to cover. and lots of foxes will have a bolting terrier. as the most important tool in the box. i despair sometimes i really do. used the right way most terriers will make

Dont think there is such an animal as a bolting terrier, any terrier will bolt a fox, hard or yapper as long as the fox has a way out away from the dog then it will go.Had a bolt from a shore only last

A quote like that usually comes from a meat head or someone that stays local and digs the same old usual few earths, or may be both?..Granted there not everyone's cup of tea (not particularly mine) &a

so the dog goes in, bays and the fox doesnt bolt...does the dog then come out?

f*****g hope not, one way walk for that cur

A quote like that usually comes from a meat head or someone that stays local and digs the same old usual few earths, or may be both?..Granted there not everyone's cup of tea (not particularly mine) & kennel space certainly has a bearing on it, but there is a lot of places that a dog like that is ideal. Maybe they will only account for a dozen or so a year but it's a dozen more than you'd get with out it & maybe will save you loosing a treasured 100% digging dog in a spot it just shouldn't be..

Yes il take stick for my views but do I care, hmmm, nah..

Think the question should be do you prefur a dog that gets up close or stands off and bays. Baying dogs still need to stay at its fox to persuade him to shift otherwise charlie boy will sit it out. You can never rely on a fox bolting though and if you scared to pick your tools up, you in the wrong game!

hey guys and girls just a quick question

what do you all prefur a terrier to stay and be dug or bolt a fox to awaiting guns?????

i know i would rather my terriers bolt a fox to the awaiting guns and with good reason to we can get a lot more ground done in a day and if we have to dig it just takes up to much time and that means less foxes we get to shoot..

cheers revmx

before the ban i think some terriermen wouldnt know what your talking about.lol

no matter what dog enters you cant guarantee a bolt or not ....................obviously for just bolting you want something small and yappy....................

why these terriermen who want to bolt foxes use these big black dogs is beyond me..............sometimes i think they forgot what there trying to do...........

then obviously each terrier will have a purpose............and each situation is different and for your intentions you will use the right dog

I'm not too fussy just as long as the fox is out one way or the other and the jobs done, but if I'm totally honest I do enjoy a good dig. One thing I don't want is a dog that will come off if the fox won't bolt. I'm guessing by just a bolter you mean a dog that won't stay? As said I do like a dig but I can't control what's going to happen because half the time if you don't walk over the earth like Elmer thud, the fox will want to bolt before the dog has even had a chance to say hello!

I do see the plus side to a dog that will just bay and maybe stay a short while, they are very handy in certain situations and some lads I know love a dog like this!

A fox can only bolt if he has a way out which the dog isn't blocking,I like a terrier to bay and mix only if needs be ,but if i thought foxes where pushing past a dog to bolt i wouldn't keep it,if a fox is pushed into a spotend, the dog has to be dug if the dogs comes out it is not 100% ,sometimes and you might be in a tricky spot and hope the fox will bolt but not and the dog come off it's game ,you might be happy ye didn't have to dig 15 foot in a rocky spot, but in the back of your mind you would of liking the dog to stay until you got to it

In my experience a fox will only bolt if it can with nothing in front of it,but if a terrier pushes a fox up into a stopend it should not let it past him or her and a dig should be the finished product. As already has been mentioned a terrier that will let a fox push it about an earth is imo not 100% reliable and would not be kept by me,then im speaking for myself, what dont suit me could be usefull to someone else.

Agreed, nothing worse than having to drop 3/4 holes because the dog can't hold what's infront of him,
