fat man 4,741
Well fat man, hows things. Im not saying that a glen would be better but they have the structure for a first x? As a 1stx they would probably come a reasonable size for earth work but to find the right glen that has been tested to the max would be the hardest job imo.I have dug over pure glens 30 odd year ago and they were not bad but i have also seen wheatens work and as i said no comparision, anyway hows your season goin mustard. 1 Quote Link to post

stevie g 2005 125
Had a very good dog,3quarter lakey quarter wheaten. He was hard as nails but a great dog to dig to and never once failed us,would scream when on his way up to his game then bang all would go silent, only the sound of bumping as he made contact and thats where you dug.I had to put him to sleep last season aged about 9 as he was gone both deaf and almost blind but had got out on my daughter while she was giving him fresh water and was in an undigable shore for almost 3 days before finially coming away,to say he was a mess is an understatement so the right thing had to be done.Myself and the lads still speak of him, some lads of thl dug over him a few times, hell of a dog. fatman sounds a decent dog how many dig a season were you getting to him if you dont mind me asking Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
Never counted but he would have been up into double figures each season but also would be in sick bay at times all depended on the dig, some were shallow some were testing, depends on where we were on the day,he was often dug twice in a day in shallow spots then given a bit of time to recoup. He had the head of a wheaten and the build of a lakey so was strong and well able to take most of what was put in front of him without making a fuss.. tinytiger 840
id say theres wheaten or glen of imaal way back in the breeding of all the northren working terrier-the reason i say it is ,a friend of mine had an accidental litter from a glen and a wheaten about 9 0r 10 years back-1 was identical to a working lakeland or coarse irish terrier type.I bred my old bull/plummer bitch to the same glen and one also came like a lakeland.Id say it coulds be a very useful cross though maybe a bit hard Well john, interesting stuff!! Do you know of a glenn dog doing the business?it would be a better cross,if you could get the wright minerals? I made a mistake when i posted that john -it was a glen and a beagle-there was 2 of themthe one that looked like a glen flipped one day when she was 3 or 4 and killed the other one and a labrador- theres a litter coming up off the same dog over his half sister( im not sure if the bitch took or if theres pups available)-there all feohanagh (christy hartnett r.i.p)lines-i.m.o there wouldnt be a glen of imaal breed at all without him-and he kept them right-not them obese shih tzu looking yokes youd see at crufts-yer man thats breeding them is giving me one..Funny story ,he bred a litter a couple of years back and got a call from a dublin fella from the g.o.i.t club of ireland giving him abuse for selling them for ONLY 300 euro! apparantly they are supposed to be 750_fcking bunch of peddelers. The same guy has smaller glens as well off different breeding-ive been hunting with him since i was 12. Quote Link to post
