Looked death in the eye.

Don't panic, calm down for all those who care about me i'm still around.

Yesterday evening i was in my shed, the walnut gunstock blank had arrived so i had to find it a home. Well i put that away safely, then went on to tidying away my other newish lumps of wood that i had bought. Well now the heater had chance to warm the shed i thought it was a good time to tidy-up and vacuum up all the wood shavings along with the sanding dust before it catches fire.

Anyhow i had done all the cleaning so thought i would carry on turning a wood bowl out of a bowl blank that was made up of lots of different woods being glued together. I had turned a spigot on the bottom to mount the blank in the chuck of the lathe. Turning the blank over so that the bowl can now be gripped in the spigot, i then turned the shape into the blank that i wanted. Then started to sand the bowl starting at 80 grit sanding paper, the lathe was now at its fasted speed (almost 4000rpm). Then it happened, the bowl broke in two and decided that both bits wanted to see the inside of my shed. I have no idea how both pieces missed me but the did, if i was a relegious person i would of prayed. It had let go so quick that i didn't have time to jump just tense-up. If i had not got a wire mesh over the windows i am sure one of the bits would have gone through them.

So if its ok with everyone i will have a day off from making Christmas presents, or at least until i stop shaking haha.
