revmx 35
hey guys i deicided to go for a walk tonight with my 223 and my terrier pup....... i got to the first paddock and i only walked about 100m when i seen a fox sitting in a gate way only about 60 meters from me so i sat down and steadied the rifle on the bipod and as i did the fox started to walk away so i did a lip squek and the fox stopped and look at me as i took the shot my pup started running down the light to where the fox was and he started to drag it back to me im happy with that this is the fox and full grown vixen... my pup did not drag it very far only about 1m but its a start so i scalped it and moved on.... with nothing else seen for about an hour so i started to make my way back to the car when i picked up 2 sets of eyes looking at me from about 500m so i cranked up the whistle and had them both in to about 200 meters in about 10 seconds flat......... and as i steadied my shot the fox i was aiming at turned around and i could not see properly so i went on to the next one steadied my shot and had him on the ground i thought the other one would of pissed off so i walked over to get my scalp. when i seen the other one sitting on the fence line about 150m away but he was trying to be smart sitting right behind a fence post so i just watched him in the scope for a little bit until he made the mistake of trying to walk off so instead of scalping them where i was i thought i would take the back to the car and get my other knife out as its allot sharper than the one i had on me....... and when i got back to the car i seen a black and white cat sitting on some round bales of hay so i dropped down on to the bi-pod and took the shot and boy was it a good shot as when i went to get it it only had a little bit of skin holding its head on got the noslor blistic tips make a mess of them....... so not bad 3 foxes and a cat in the first paddock of the night..... so off i go yo the next paddock and the same thing only walked about 100m from the car when i picked up a set of eyes hiding in the long grass i seen it stick its head up and i thought how lucky am i another cat so after taking the shot i went to have a look but could not find it so with my battery on my spotlight getting low i thought bugger it ill come back on my out to try and find it so off i go again walk right around the place and on my way back to the there was a fox sitting on top of a den and as soon as the light hit it i thought it went down but to my surprise the fox just moved off to the right and when i picked it up again it was out at about 400m so i started to whistle again and nothing so i turned the light off and keeped whistling for about 5 min and when i turn the light on again the fox was only about 40m from me running at me so i yelled stop lucky i was ready for the shot as the fox stopped on the spot and turned just as the fox turned i pulled the trigger another one on the ground and another full grown vixen so i picked her up and started to walk to where i shot the cat and to my surprise when i got there i found the cat and i had walked right over the top of it and did not see it...... so all up i walked about 5 km and ended the night with 4 foxes and 2 cats im happy with that........cheers revmx 1 Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
Well done! Plenty of cats around here need the same treatment, just imagining now the uproar if lads local to this part of the world were to put up those pics lol. Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
We also had a drive out last night took both the 223 and 17HMR. Total for the night was 3 foxes with the 223 + 11 hares 3 rabbits and 1 'miscellaneous' with the HMR Cold night but worth the drive. Gotta go back later in the week as we saw at least 4 more sets of eyes! Quote Link to post
Ratsmasher 36
Nice shooting bud...are cats a regular on the quarry list in oz then? Quote Link to post
revmx 35
yeah mate any cat i see running around on the farms i shoot on is a dead one they course more damage to our wild life than foxes Quote Link to post
Ratsmasher 36
your certainly not wrong about them causing damage to wildlife forget all this rubbish about lead shot and rat poison killing songbirds in the UK they should just ban cats 1 Quote Link to post
