Cheers mate I'm not giving up its only a little mistake plus with him being young i think that will help ill work as hard as I can to get it sorted theres no way id give up hes not just a dog to me ,if I can't sort it ill work him on land with no stock if need be thanks mate A dog thats unreliable around stock should be dealt with appropriately, even when there is no stock about a dog can get on a chase that will bring it amongst them, its never an easy or palatable decision, especially with a dog thats a part of the owners lifestyle,it will most likely learn, they usually do,if not then its days in the field should be over.To many lurchers, with irresponsible owners, are the cause of stock chasing and killing that makes the job harder for the lads that follow. 1 Quote Link to post

I agree mate a lurcher that can't be trusted with stock is a no no , but id rather keep the dog as a pet if need be but I'll do everything I can to sort him out , hopefully I can I've had him out again on the lead and corrected him he does seem to be listening but only time will tell cheers mate Quote Link to post
chartpolski 24,889
I know off a dog that had never looked at stock at all in his life. He had ran rabbits, hare, fox and deer thru' sheep and never batted an eylid; then one day when he was around 7 or 8, he was out with another dog that ran in on a sheep, and instinct took over and he had the sheep by the throat ! He was called off before any damage was done, and never did it again.... but this just prooves that no amount of training will eradicate instinct ! Cheers. 4 Quote Link to post
