inan 841
Did a bit of ferreting with mi pup yesterday doing all the marking and I thought I,d leave nets off and let her have a few bolters... she kept wanting a rest...but i pushed her harder and she did ok I suppose. If she dont buck her Ideas up Im going to have to swop her for something better in a week or 2. anyway had to cut the morning short and get to the pub before dinnertime because the strippers were on..so left the ferrets down the warrens and came home. . . I'm sure if I had stayed I could have had a few more..but I suppose its best not to push my pup too far too soon eh. PS Merry Xmas Everyone. Has it seen any teeth yet? DogMagic 461
Unfortunately theres so many idiots in lurchers who would actually be serious about axpecting a pup of that age to work. But LOL! Good post Whenever i have a pup i take it out for the dog walk/ ferreting session from day one. It stays inside my coat untill its had its jabs then i let it follow along untill its tired and then back in my coat. This way it gets to watch what it will be doing as an adult by seeing my adults doing it. As and when i judge it to be ready i leave a hole or two unnetted. And by 6 months or so old i have them out lamping, not to run but again to watch. Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
Seriously dogmagic? I couldn't be arsed with the hassle. Pups just get in the way. Any lurcher will pick up what it's born to do with a few outings no matter it's age. I always prefered to leave the pup in kennel, one of the most important lessons it needs to learn is it doesn't always get to go. At some point it'll get injured and left, last thing you want is a dog with desperation problems howling the place down. Just my opinion. 1 Quote Link to post

Phil Lloyd 10,738
@ Baw Personaly,..I like to get a pup out 'as soon as possible'.... Good old lurchers , eh...what would we do without em.. Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
I know what I'm doing without them chalky, doing my nut in lol. You don't understand how much lurchers are away of life till you don't have one to run. Go out when I can with mates etc but its not the same. Once I've settled down again it's first on my list Quote Link to post
bird 10,013
good bag vin, nice pup should be fast and good wind with its breeding, from what ive heard. .What was the coats on the parents like, as i know ferreting your main sport, and can be fair amount of standing about at times, and good coat definitely helps.
