Albino stock, a follow up!

The old feller rang last night, you could tell he was having withdrawl symptoms from rabbiting, he and his missus have been dog sitting between them since last Wed for nearly 24/7 since Jed came back from the surgery.

It sounds like Jed has settled in nicely with his own radiator, and every few hourly walks to the front garden for toilet duties, and then back in to watch Jeremey Kyle or whatever shoite that my old feller watches during the day, and trying to nick any food thats left about! Bloody dog!

Anyhow, he agreed to pick me up at 7am as usual today, which he did, with the other runner Robbie in the back seat of the pickup, usually both of them are in the back of the truck, but today he was riding solo in style!

Robbie TBH, is the cooler one of the dogs, he is very laid back, and as a consequence, takes a back seat to Jed most of the time due to my old mans lack of patience. He is the better dog full stop. Not as suicidal, well thought out, every run is calculated, picks his strike, retrieves well, and marks gently. He can be just as desperate as Jed with the runs, but has the sixth sense, when to commit, when to hold back, cutting a run off away from cover for a well timed strike and rarely gets into trouble. I think the dog has more brains than the men that he takes out to work! ;)

Anyhow, thats beside the point, the other half of this years potential 'below the sod workforce' was taken out today for a trial, on what we call easy ground. Its high ground, with warrens scattered throughout, never holding a lot, as the yearly cropping keeps the numbers down.

The other two jills, out of this years litter of 4 were taken out, with Billy Bob and Billy Bobs Brother as back up. One is a good sized jill, the biggest of the litter, I had earmarked her as being one to watch just from her manner amongst the clan back here. (Photo taken tonight at home).

Also the runty, stumpy tailed, three toed back feet Jill our lass has named 'Madge'.

Must admit, the runt has shown spirit amongst the clan, bossing the food at every opportunity, and holding her own against the more able bodied ferrets, I wont breed from it, but if it can do a job, it has a home.

(Photo's tonight, only of the stumpy end!).

Day started out good, with a mark on a one holer, perfect opportunity for the kits, so in they went, resulting in a skirmish below ground for a minute followed by a bolt, good start for the kits, both to ground, and both involved!

Shortly after, Robbie marked us a ten hole warren up, I know the warren, and have seen a good few come out of it every year, the two jills were entered and saw a bit of sticking going on, it took me four digs, and about an hour to liberate 3 rabbits from the warren. Quite a few failings here, the only one not failing, was the the large jill I have had faith in for quite a few months, she showed her metal, by sticking at it, and not showing until the warren was clear with the final dig. Priceless.

'Madge' on the other hand, had showed quite a lot, and messed around a bit, and not stayed whilst her big sister had been grafting.

Not a great sticking around point in my book!

Anyhow, after a busy couple of hours work from the kits, 9 bunnys were lined up (One behind the ferret box) and looked a bit like a horror movie.

I felt at this point that the serious jill needed a bit of a rest, and broke out Billy bob and his brother for a stint.

Robbie showed his class again, with some steady marks, and good runs, he;s way off match fit at present, but still class.

A squall came in, oh well, lets get on with it Robbie says.

seconds later A dog, ferret, rabbit medley!

We are not the only ones hunting rabbits!

If you look carefully, you can see the last moments of terror in the corpses eye's, nature is hellish cruel, looks like a buzzard kill to me.

Madge got another chance to prove herself, a two holer courtesy of laid back Robbie.

My foot in the hole at this end, dont know many dogs that will lie down whilst a ferret is to ground! Laid back and confident!

Madge failed for me, she stuck at it, but pecking at the bunny rather than gettung stuck in. :hmm:

Anyhow, relied on the bombproof 5yr old hobs after that, they were faultless as ever.

A couple of shots of Robbie, not in shape yet, but a strong dog.

And the bag.

So out of the 4, it looks like 3 are working straight out of the box, Madge will get another chance, but I can tell now what the outcome is likely to be, a bolty type, as opposed to a sticky type is not a hard decision in my book.

my bitch waits for the bolt lying down!:tongue2:

sounded a great session, there must be something in the water in around me, the ferrets, including my usually reliable jill, have turned shite and have been named Jacker and Jill by my ferreting accomplices :cray::laugh: i really am at a loose end, they are back at match weight, but not fat, usually she is one we can definetly rely on. i was planning to breed some colleagues off her in the summer, but if this doesn't improve i dont know what will happen. and to top it all off, they have not taken to the hob i picked up off TOMO and are giving him some grief. Ferkin Ferrets!
