Shamo 319
It seems that quite a number of people do not realise the South West area is still up and running. Membership is very, very low however and it may be a matter of a short while before there is no South West area, as such. I run the area at present and this is my second time of doing it, just to keep everything going. I was the area Rep in the early 90's and handing it over to someone who went to many Shows and liked putting himself about. I have since taken the Reins again about 3 Years ago and unfortunately, for the area, have not put myself about as much as I should of. I will be going to some Shows this Year( ) although I do not go to many if any Shows, which could be my downfall slightly, but I am available to be contacted by Mobile 24hrs a Day, as long as you do not use a 'witheld' or 'private' number. The South West area covers the whole of Cornwall and most of Devon right up to Exmoor and the Borders of Somerset. It costs £10 a Year per Member and gives the reassurance of having someone who can get a group of experienced diggers together to help RESCUE a Terrier or Terriers you own. At times it has been necessary to get in JCB's and hire Turfers and countless other bits of equipment needed to RESCUE a Dog. Sometimes rescuing Pet Dogs and not just Earthdogs. The expence to the particular Member?.......The £10 Yearly membership fee, which covers you for as many RESCUES as required a Year, should you be that unlucky, or dare I say stupid. I think £10 is not a lot of money for the piece of mind it gives ANYONE who owns a Terrier. The main stipulation is that all digging is done within the law. Obviously an area Rep cannot ask a Digger Driver or other Members to take part in anything illegal, hence some RESCUES have had to be refused. If there are any South West area users of this Forum, or if you know of any give them the nod and put them in touch with me. I do not bite that often....... If anyone would like any more info or contact details either look on the East Midlands areas Web Site or PM me here. Quote Link to post

monkeychops 2
WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. THE CLUB WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOU NEED ADVICE ON COURT MATTERS, NOR WILL THEY HELP ON RESCUES ANYMORE. IF YOU ARE SUMMONED TO A COURT HEARING REGARDING DIGGING OFFENCES, THE CLUB ASK YOU TO RESIGN, BEFORE A SENTENCE HAS BEEN PAST. FACT. Quote Link to post
Shamo 319
BEFORE guys think of joining the F&M it might be wise to look at all the Rules and Constitution of the Club. The Club WILL help carry out ANY RESCUE of a Dog which is/has been working within the confines of the Law. It would pay some guys to do some research and find out what the Laws are regarding 'Terrier work'. The legal system does not recognise 'ignorence' as a legitimate excuse for breaking the Law. IF a Dog is in somewhere it shouldn't be the Club is legally obliged to notify the necessary authorities in order to safeguard any companies used, diggers Drivers or any Hire companies. The Club has to be given permission by the necessary people whether that be the Police or Landowner or both. If the F&M were to carry out a RESCUE without notifying anybody it needed to, then all equipment and Vehicles can be confiscated until the Hearing takes place. On top of that, anyone at the RESCUE can be arrested and charged with any number of offences. Before a Rescue of the above type is sanctioned the respective Member should be told what must happen and then it is up to him to decide whether he wants help from the F&M. Why should anyone risk their Jobs, Vehicles, equipment, Homes and Families for someone elses ignorence? Sounds harsh but fact of life. Quote Link to post

IF YOU ARE SUMMONED TO A COURT HEARING REGARDING DIGGING OFFENCES, THE CLUB ASK YOU TO RESIGN, BEFORE A SENTENCE HAS BEEN PAST. FACT. Seems like you must have had a bad experience with them! Don't think you should be so hard on them though - They DO carry out rescues and membership IS worthwhile. Keep up the good work guys - Always remember (put) your terriers (first). Quote Link to post
