tinson1 16
Hi all, in the next few months i will be looking to get my first lurcher, i have done all aspects of the hunting game and prefer the chasing part of it, i love watching a dog chase its quarry and return it to hand, i know of a few mates that are also into it and we talk regular about there outings! When i come to buy my lurcher i want something fast(obviously) agile and powerful but also friendly enough for a family environment! I have read up on the forums and it comes down to personal choice, i have taken a liking to a 1/2 grey 1/4 bull 1/4 collie, reasons being it should be fast enough for rabbits and powerful for most quarry but also intelligent! Any tips and hints with this cross would help! Also i haven't yet seen this cross or its very rare? Any pictures and advice with training and such will be greatly appreciated! Cheers ryan!! Chid 6,519
I just think it would suit what im after, a fast powerful dog that will take most quarry, but also able to be in the house! Does there need to be collie in the mix to make it a house dog ? Quote Link to post
tinson1 16
No not really, just like the collies for some reason Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Had one recently, ok if a little heavy, after all it was half non sighthound, it had a bit of the collie hyperness with the bulls no stopping which did bring a few problems. I took it on after two other owners had given up and made it into a half decent worker. Died at about 4 years old, no reverse gear, smashed into wooden bar. It was getting a little nasty towards the end. With all crosses you take the chance of getting the worst of the parents as much as the best , if it hadn't been hyper would likely have been easier to live with, not a house dog type so pick the parents well.
