saluki natural retreiving?

Recommended Posts

mine does if he only out with me!!, no chance if another dog around!! but i agree there not bred for the brains!!!

Not bred for brains? The saluki or highly saluki saturated dogs are far from brain dead. They will kill game where most lurchers won't by boxing its game off cover and back out into the open reading and watching every move there game makes they will step out of line and run up the side of them and put them were they want the game not where the game wants to be they are a very intelligent dog

This bitch, Willow, was a natural retriever. Without any form of training she just wanted to present me with her catches.....even through thick hedges with barbed wire fences. Only after the long runs

In my experience some saluki bred lurchers struggle to remember to come back themselves never mind retrieve game, salukis were bred to run long distance at a high speed & are exceptional at this.

99% of what determines whether or not a Saluki type will retrieve depends on the bond the dog has with its owner and how much time the owner spends developing that bond and playing the right sort of g

To true mate, the saluki is like the beardie collie intelligent as they come but a stubborn streak but that stubbornness is what makes them run for 6-8mins flat out without throwing towel in many ova cleaver dogs without that stubbornness quit when goin gets tough. It might take a little longer in training due to this but u get far supior dog in the end

right iv only ever spent time in field with coursing dogs an 1/2 coursing dogs, an there a funny lot to say the least, but my question is... are full saluki's even worse?? are they twice as bad as a coursing dog?? or does the coursing dogs still carry the same traits as full salukis, i reckon i could handle a coursin dog, but if a saluki is even worse, then i doubt i could handle 1 a them, im used to lurchers that are easy to train an willing to please

its not the patience i think would be a problem, i never had a problem way deerhound blood, i think iv got round to the way a coursing dog thinks, but if a saluki is a whole other level above that again then i think i need to meet some an see exactly what they are like, i no intention a getting 1 rio, just curious as to them an there nature, iv had a few dogs now that were lamp dogs x day dogs an iv got round to there way a thinking, an i really like there blow amongst other things
