BUBBLEFLOAT. 33
never enter a dog when he thinks hes ready you let him enter when you think hes ready???? safer to hold that dog to next year 2 Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
No reason why he can't be shown something before the end of the season. I would start him when you think he's ready. I had a small russell who seemed keen enough to go & had his chance when I dug down to an older bitch who's fox had pushed on a bit. The russel went up the tube, met charlie & shot out faster than he went in. The bitch pushed on & we dispatched the fox. 2 weeks later the lurcher marked a small 3 hole rabbit warren & the russell wanted in & this time he showed no caution like his first time. No baying just bumping, broke through to a fox that had come off second best. I held the dog back a bit due to his style of working but he was a handy "10 dog who could get anywhere. You'll know when he's ready & so will he 3 Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
10 months fine, when the dog wants to enter, let it. depends on how mature it is, and if you think its up to it. 1 Quote Link to post

tillearthdouspart 100
All mature at different stages only you will no when their ready, 10mth seems a bit early but its foxes were dealing with somecan handle them now for sure at that age its happened plenty a times to me and others to i bet. its really up to you and knowing your when their ready atb with your pup 1 Quote Link to post
MOO 730
you will never ruin a dog by holding it back but it does them no harm at all getting out when they are pups ....to get used to all the sounds sights and smells ...every day is a school day 2 Quote Link to post
bobby blackheart 1,209
like the lads have said-it wont hurt him to sit and listen on a few digs-give him a rag when its been dispatched try him on the arse end of this season but make sure its all in his favour as much as you can-lol-watch him and he will let you know when he wants some-atb and let us know how he gets on.its not unknown for a dog of that age to self enter-but for f**k sake make sure he got a locator on him and you can get to him-try him somewhere shallow and enjoy it atb bobby 1 Quote Link to post

OldNog 432
I entered mine at 17 month it think. My brother has a russell x that has escaped to ground a few times, in empty places thankfully, but he is still very puppyish. Wanting to play all the time, so i told him best leave him a few month until he is mature as well as wanting to go to ground Quote Link to post
