Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Mr foxdropper, crikey you're keen for a reply but as most of my time is spent "on" the fields and not just talking about it,I will try fit you in before my last walk,I have no interest in you or your posts really but there are many levels of hunting as I previously commented and respect costs nothing for another hunter or countryman of any sort, you seem incapable of saying anything without resorting to ridicule or criticism of another mans choice of dog or sport, your response is quite entertaining really regarding you doing everything on my behalf and those that know me and been out on the fields where it counts with me would be the first to laugh,I am a hands on sort that does not wait around for anything to happen by chance and choose my friends carefully,I have no idea of your age or background but your ignorance knows no limits judging by your churlish attitude to earthwork,I've seen many like you jump out of an earth after big talk on the way there about your dangerous lion taming exploits, you will have never associated with the kind of decent lads I have met from all over this fine country of ours, some well known and some just ordinary decent folk with a genuine love of dogs,I have a very diverse background of working dogs that takes in a lot of other breeds you would find contempt in also,I agree with you that 90% of Plummers will never see earthwork and as I see it its the other 10% you cannot get your inferior brain around,Fireman has agreed to a day out as he is a lot closer than myself and he is an honest lad that many have a lot of time for, make your comment at least after seeing one work,we are talking about a little fox,not some large brown bear or man eating tiger, you really should think about changing your avatar to something that is more reflective of your legendary status like "HERO". I suppose you know what a "foxdropper" is?? its certainly not a name anyone associated with hunting would use because of the inference and inuendo that immediately springs to mind.I have owned and tested nearly every sort of terrier at some time in my life and find there is not much difference between the good ones of any breed, quality will always be quality,FACT,WM I suppose you led back after this thinking to yourself "that f*****g told him ". You decided to chip in to this post by championing the plummer terrier as an all round worker .To date you have provided not a scrap of evidence to back up your arguement other than a russel that may or may not have a bit in it . I am not disputing the merits of any other type for earth work but what i have seen of the plummer terrier when asked to enter an earth is decidedly comical to say the least .I am open to be taught other wise and fireman is more than welcome to come down whenever he likes as are you but that invite will stem from a pm only.In life ,a man can only really comment on what he has seen with his own eyes, sieve what he is told and bin what he knows to be shite .The OP asks what is the best all rounder blacks or plummers which implies he is talking about the breeds as a whole and not on individual merits.I have a kennel of blacks that have been witnessed by many ,coveted by some and i can say hand on heart they are all rounders . i do not seek to ridicule anyone but i do require the truth in life ,something which evades 2/3 of terriermen.I have no problem with anyone owning a terrier and using it on rats and rabbits with a bonus bolt once a year but what i do object to is the lads that proclaim they have a worker in such a dog .If youve been there and done as much as you say then you will have met the sort i refer to and im sure that if you are the dogman you profess to be ,you will know what i mean .If i come across as bolshy then its because i am .Truth is the truth and theres no getting away from it .In life ive found there are those that love to talk and ive learnt to let them ,saying nothing but vowing to have nothing more to do with bullshitters and on the odd occassion telling them they are liars .I would like to meet you one day as we are probably of a similar age and then you can form your own opinion based on fact .Im old enough to know and remember what REAL terrier work is if thats any help .We may even know the same lads ? 2 Quote Link to post

foxfan 479
The tragedy of this thread is that it is leading the young, the inexperienced and the gullible astray. Lets face it, there are those of us old enough to know that, since it's inception the Plummer terrier has been a con, a false hood, a lie, just like the man who's name they bear. I have no doubt that a Plummer will rat and rabbit as good as any spaniel, but on the whole thats as far as it goes. 2 Quote Link to post

I have no doubt that a Plummer will rat and rabbit as good as any spaniel, but on the whole thats as far as it goes. A realist at last .good on yer mate nothing wrong with keeping it real fella's . I have had one or two terriers around me for as long as i can remember. starting with little black an tan border/lakies. and blacks. these where well bred little fuks and far to foolhardy for me. due to a move from lancashire to lanarkshire i ended up with russells. they suited me better. after a while i felt like i needed a change in direction so purchased. (for washers) a plummer. she has exelled at everything asked of her and i have to say she flies to ground and works fox with gusto. she is on the big side and ratting and rabbiting with her is like using a sledge hammer to knock nails in. she is more suited to fox above and below. i also have two other plummer bitches that havnt made the grade below but are usefull on top one out of three is a fair average in any breed. so there you have it. there are plummers that work to ground. and some that dont . i can of course only speak of my own terriers as thats all i have experience of. and i wont speak of any i have not reared and entered myself. i have never bred a plummer. but would breed of my big bitch to keep one for myself if i needed another terrier . i will never own a black / coloured digging bred terrier again. not becouse they arnt any good. but becouse they dont suit me . thats keeping it real. there are good dogs in all breeds . as a ps. i'm not saying any of my dogs are world beaters. ive never had the pleasure to own a world beater of any breed as yet. but can make good use of what a lot of folk would waste. atb 3 Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
I like your frankness "foxdropper" and have answered your pm,there are many with a low opinion of plummers and I can see your side of things I just wish people would not let prejudice against Plummer or his dog type get in the way of their judgement, good and bad in every breed for all to see out there,I only ever comment on my own dogs working ability,if I thought there was a better all round dog than my Plummers I would own one but after owning and working terriers of all types for over 40yrs there is nothing near them,WM Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Foxfan, the young lads have been led astray by fools with no idea of earthwork,I do not own big hard dogs that get smashed up,just little bolters that according to likes of you are pretenders, the days are gone for anyone wishing to continue working hard terriers, any pics that I put up are pre-ban and that is plain to see by how young I am in them,I am an old grey haired F*cker now with 40 odd yrs of memories and every young lad that comes out with me is taught the right way,no cruelty or messing about,no badgers or anything illegal as my daily work depends on staying the right side of the law,my dogs are worked 7 days a week not the odd weekend like most,my dogs will catch or kill more vermin in a year than most will see in a lifetime,as I said,ALL ROUNDERS,WM Quote Link to post

lukey 1,621
Ive only ever used terriers for earthwork, could one of yous tell me what a day out with an all round terrier would involve? Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,323
Ive only ever used terriers for earthwork, could one of yous tell me what a day out with an all round terrier would involve? i'll have a shot at explaining what it means to me lukey. its a terrier that can be used in more than one situation. a terrier that can be used for bushing /shooting/ferretting/ ratting/ and work to ground. either bolting or being dug to. as you can imagine you only need a couple of terriers to cover all the bases. in pest/vermin control situations. i'm happy to call mine jack of all trades. master of none. or (sporting terriers. ) most terriers are highly intelligent and capable of a lot more than asked of them in most cases. my terriers are generally running loose and rarely on leash and couple. 2 Quote Link to post
