youngo 20
Jonny777 as I said mate only my opinion, not saying he didn't want a working dog but first and foremost he wanted a breed of terrier named after him. So its a fair enough question to ask, That with all the working beagle's up and down the country why use a american kc dog which in my opinion was used to get the coat pattern first with the added bonus of some nose going into the mix. 1 Quote Link to post
johnny 777 53
Fair comment, but like you said in your initial post you said he was trying to create a new type or breed or terrier rather than a WORKING STRAIN. Yes he want a breed named after himself don't know why he chose American beagle maybe your right. WC may know the answer Quote Link to post
fireman 10,976
So the story goes the beagle used was owned by a school teacher friend who did hunt it and it was dug to once or twice and it was other people who called them plummer terriers,he called them his own strain of jack russell,I'm just stating what i've been told and to be honest i don't care where, what, who his dogs came from or what he did with them as all i own is a distant decendant from them and it really don't make no odds to me in my life if the beagle was pink and could fly,the whole question of pats v plummers is rather silly imo. 1 Quote Link to post

bitchie 292
here in germany all breeds are made to allrounders and i dont like it! they do everything but nothing realy good, or maybe one thing good and the rest not. some are good enough for abit bushing, doing rats and that but are they allrounder when they do sometimes abit that or are they "grounddog specialists who do also abit rats"? for sure some of you will know a good allrounder i know a good allronder too but i dont know a good allrounder breed or line. and please dont change a grounddog breed into a allrounder breed. that mostly whent wrong there are so many breeds who can show you that it is not working to make them better. and that is what i like with the uk breeds they were/are specialists! i prefer specialists. 1 Quote Link to post
johnny 777 53
I posted it for other peoples opinion to learn but I have realised it does not matter what you post there's always a lot spoilers on this site who contradict themselves abuse other people's opinions without any real input, scrutinise every word. I have learned something though, a lot of people not all on this site don't do much hunting that I have learned. Quote Link to post
fireman 10,976
Lol so why start it then if you think it's "rather silly" I didn't start the topic mate just gave my opinion and two different terriers bred for two different full time jobs so to compare is a tad silly imo,i have a plummer that i can have a dig with but i have russell's to dig to and they don't touch the sides to my plummer when it comes to other types of work so even with my own dogs i don't compare them as there here for different jobs but can play at each others game. swag 54
So Jonny if I get this right, the old good working plummers were so early on in the genetic make up they were really just out crossed Russell's. plus you have asked for a comparison between patts and plumbers yet you have then felt the need to over defend you obvious favourite of the two. This is not how you receive true answers to your question. I had my opinion on the wptc and the PTA made up for me yesterday when I pulled into my local food mill and there greeting me was the owners skinny little Plummer bitch, granted she's a fine moocher of rats and mice, but she is now in pup to a well bred Plummer dog of fine standing. When I asked what he worked, the guy was un able to comment yet he had a long list of firsts and seconds to real out. Black /fell/patterdales call them what you want have hundreds of years of working heritage and thousands upon thousands of good dogs that earnt their working name. I believe plummers are still earning their right to be called a breed let alone the right to be compared to true working terriers 5 Quote Link to post
