Dan Edwards 1,134
I guess what I was sayin up above was go big or dont go at all. As far as greyhounds go I wouldnt piss on a track grey if it were on fire. They are useless for breeding options unless you are gonna race them on the track. 2 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
The only terrier that will produce the goods on a regular basis,is the Beddy hybrids,im not a fan of terrier infused lurchers as i believe there are far better options about that will do a better job, most of the fads that are undertaken, usually for a romantic rather than practical purpose, are just that, romantic forays into producing another, basically useless, litter of jukels that will suit the needs of the less discerning hunter and chancer. If nothing but a terrier is available to further a lurcher hybrid, its time to reflect anew and choose a different path. Dan McDonough 560
Dan- I'd like to see a picture of Junior if you've got one. Morton- In a general sense you may be right. A man with a sharp eye for the right strain of dog will prove you wrong in a heartbeat though. I can't convey to you what I do or do not know about dogs so there is no way for you to get a feel about wether or not I'll be successful. All you can do is spectate and enojoy a fellow dog man having some fun. I promise I won't try and get you to buy one. 1 Quote Link to post

If the best right strain of dog to produce a running machine i.e, a lurcher,is a terrier, then the initial breeding is flawed,i understand the minerals that a terrier will give to a breeding attempt at running jukels, but to me its like one step forward for two back,if there are no better options available, then fair play, but a lesser option is often better than a worthless first. Dan Edwards 1,134
Here go a picture of the Junebug a few weeks back. Coyote was flushed out by hounds. Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
Dan Just do it. Dont worry bout what anybody else says. Just friggin do it and have fun. I'd take your best terrier gyp you can find and put her to a serious coyote dog. Dont go breeding to a dog gone track grey whatever you do. 2 Quote Link to post

Dan McDonough 560
Very interesting!! I was thinking about this a while and I don't know if I could come up with anything that would really be better than a Stag with a nose..at least where it concerns coyotes. Now for fox, I'm still in the same frame of mind. I've got the whippet end of things wrapped up and I have a very nice stag bitch. I guess I'm going to be the first to make the whippet x jagd. I still can't believe that...somewhere in the world it has to have been done. Never fear Morton, the right jagd has enough brains for the job. The one I have here is not one of those mindless chainsaw types. As for size, I have a way around that. Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Here is a picture of his littermate as a fat pup. The feet on that dog look like hound feet! Not frigile and pokey like a sighthound. Robust! 1 Quote Link to post
Dan McDonough 560
Is that from the airdale? Quote Link to post

bluecollar 104
I thought about doing this type of breeding for coon and such but got airedale/bull Cross lurchers and they do real good and the one with stag is a tracking winding freak, I would just find a real small female stag to breed tp,, jm2c... And they will stop a bob race quick.... Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Dan, I'd go with Dan ( ), just breed the feckin things... Test the arse off 'em an be honest about 'em... It's the only way you'll ever know... Quote Link to post
STUNTMAN 552
Edwards i have to dis agree with you concerning track greyhound comment. I have either seen, owned or hunted with some good ones and there are good ones out there just like everthing else along with junk. Seen alot junk Stags, terirers ,hounds, curs, bull dogs and men just like you have and if you think some of the stags you owned haven't had GH in them well your a hill jack. Dan I have tried it twice. Once with a Track grey out of Gable dodge, under a stud dog from Goran P. his jags are from Croatia. Bitch got bred had pups ate them. Second time was to another Hot Blood [below} and it never took and the Stud was also a GP bred dog. So I cured and gave up lol. Quote Link to post
