which crosses have thicker skin? mine has just opened her knee up, at the vets gettin stitched up as i type..... expensive rabbit! i would imagine thicker skin adds weight to a dog and therefore would be a slower animal? am i right in this assumption? mine is 14months old and quite a finely built bitch, am i going to be having this for the next 10years?? had her out with the ferret, bolted a few and she come back afterwards with her knee opened up. dont think this was a wire injury more likely bramble or sharp stick as we were in woods. other than her skin she is sound fast enough for what i do and seemingly good feet to run on anything so far. just your thoughts cheers

Any dog with any type of skin/coat is guaranteed to get rips, tears and cuts if it is worked. My Deer X managed to find a bit of glass on a snow covered stubble field the other day and cut her foot ! Shit happens; it's all part of the game !

By the way, did Jake ever get that pup from Wales ?

Cheers.

so i should buy her a barbour :victory: . so are you saying all lurchers have the same thin skin? i thought that some would have a heavier thicker skin. i know coat is first defence and she has a thin coat which certainly doesnt help. she needs to be more careful!!!! anywhere else and i coulda fixed her up but as it was opening up when she sat or lay down had to be a vets job. cheers

yes charts he did, lovely bitch. 6months atm shy when she's approached but friendly when she approaches you. she's around 22tts he's a bit worried she wont make the size he wants but i would say she will, she still has massive feet and knuckle and the ridge through her ribs is still prominent. i think she will make around 25 but we will see.his fat whippets shed some pounds recently aswel :whistling::thumbs:

I'm glad he got it. Hope it turns out well for him, he put the homework and the miles in to get it ! He allways liked my bitch, Delta, and she's 23", so his pup should make at least that. I'd like to see it sometime. The pair of you should call round sometime for a craic !!

Cheers.

i think he has still got your number, i'll let him know. often think about poppin down the whips but he works most saturdays the greedy barsteward. well mine is 23/24 and i think his will be at least that or bigger and heavier set (with a crackin coat), only time will tell, she looks like she needs to stretch out some! atb

Smooth coated muscled up dogs are prone to skin tears.splitting, they dont have much protection from the hazards, Rough coated or double coated dogs have that buffer.

Not exactly true. My Bull x bitch has very little coat but has skin like a Rhino and tears very little.

Rough coats deflect hazards, but don't stop skin from tearing.

thats what i was asking in initial post, i thought the bull cross would have a thicker skin along with other breeds maybe. :victory: doesnt help the fact mine has skin like paper and coat like paint.
