Guest vin
I was out before it was light and returned when it was dark...On my own again as I'm turning into Billy-No-Mates this last week or 2. long day and a lot of netting up on some bloody nasty hedges. I missed 4 out 6 that were bolted today.. . still too much cover in the hedgerows. I did a couple of things I havnt done in a long time today and the 1st 2 mistakes were netting up 2 warrens that i have done before on a previous visit and had a few out of,But the dog gave no mark and I did the usual..I know better and failed..trouble is I spent about and hour netting it all up on my hands and knees crawling through the brambles. .. The dog was looking at me like a fool and I was made to look one when the Ferts went in and nothing came out. The dogs was already 20 yards dwon the hedge Marking a nice little 6 hole warren while I was spending another half an hour removing all the nets from my failed mission. . .she kept coming back up to me to check and then going back and pointing the correct place to be. So I eventually followed her on and netted up this smaller warren while the dog was whining quietly at me telling me theres something home. Because she was giving a good strong mark I dropped my big jill kit in to make sure she got to see some action this day.. She was soon onto something and 2 bunnies flew out in no time. . .she went back down and came out pretty quick after that..So i dropped her in the box and put my old Jill in just to make sure nothing was missed. . Sorted..nets off and Im sure as i was removing the last net the dog was laughing at me as if to say "I told you so". I moved a bit further down the hedge and got another mark with the dog..But this time i couldnt get nets on some of the holes because they were too deep in the undergrowth..And as usual 2 bunnies slipped past the nets and the dog and headed up the hedge where we had already been,..safe for another day..lol. By this point in time I was getting a bit bored with the lack of action and decided to nets off and just go a bit further up the hedge and see what was about.. I came to a very large Warren on the corner of field and hedge and decided to not bother netting up and just to drop my newest recruit fert in and see if it could bolt anything ..purely for experimental purposes..lol. So I dropped the little un In and stood back and waited..and waited..then thought mmm shall i put some nets on.. Bang to late ! 2 came out like thunder crashing through the cover with dog in hot pursuit. . no chance of catching them though..lol. out comes little fert hot on their tails...So i cant complain. On last set I knew I would miss them but its nice to know theres still a few about on this little spot for another day before the end of season. A long day and a lot of crawling about for 2 bunnies...but they were well earned and thats all that matters in my book these days. I have quite lot of days like this through the season when Im not going to hot spots etc etc for good days /nights out . . I dont mind as long as i dont blank completely on a trip out. . . Sometimes its more of a challenge to find something when theres not a lot about. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
It twists me to miss a bunny, leaving one 6 ft down when i know its over makes me mad. think it must be OCD or something. Go on Vin, good work on the two, two would be enough for me if i knew only two were on the cards. Bloody rabbits! 1 Quote Link to post

NELS0N 457
Well done Vin i enjoyed that post. We've all been there, ignoring dogs when they don't mark because we think we know better. 2 very hard earned rabbits will taste all the better with all that effort. good work. Quote Link to post
