patterdalejoel 669
my bitch went out ferreting for short trips from 12 weeks, just tried not to let her chase anything. and when she eventually caught a rabbit on her own at about a year actually smelling feeling touching a rabbit wasnt such a big shock as she had been around them 12 weeks old. just my opinion on it Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
I had my Whippet out ferreting with me at six Months, not chasing, but working the hedgerows, watching the Rabbits bolt, learning to work with the ferrets and use his nose, Has not did him any harm, he has turned into a useful ferreting companion, and has never yipped. 2 Quote Link to post

hunter96 13
To early mate could do more harm than good in the long run thanks for the advice mate, does it effect them physicaly or mentaly? Quote Link to post
hillbilly boy 109
Well it's matter of opinion mate could do damage physically depends on what you do with it I have my out working the hedges and marking since she was 4 months but only in places I know she will only get the odd run but plenty of scent for her to work. I certainly wouldn't be looking to work her properly till she nearly a year old not gonna do them any harm by holding em back for a extra few months Quote Link to post
hillbilly boy 109
If you know lads that are out ferreting it won't do any harm to take him and letting him watch just keep him stood back still on lead overseeing the proceedings Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,137
take him out and let him see whats going on no do him any harm i take mine out at that age there not whippets but about the same size get it out Quote Link to post
