Swollen leg

My bitches front left leg has swollen right up, didn't notice it until I got in from lamping. She took a few knocks smashing into cover like she does but no more than usuall, she did have a real hard long run that left her with a limp that she walked off....There's a few puncture wounds too so thought maybe hawthorn ?

 

Swellings gone down slightly since then but if its not gone by 2moro ill take her to the vets. Any tips/advice on what to give her or what it may be ?

cant remember think mines got the same sire,suprised she still breathing sounds like a wild boar crashing through the woods at times

had plenty knocks over the years like they do,usual bit resting up has most them sorted but this wasnt going down so best thing as i say if your unsure cheers

Yep same sire mate, shes flat out into cover no slowing up what so ever! Day or night

Sounds like you have a sensible plan of action, with working dogs knocks etc are inevitable and we would be at the vets every week if we were to take them for every little scratch.

Most minors stuff settles quickly and with experience we get to recognise many of the slightly more serious but inevitable injuries such as knocked up toes or deep bruising that need a bit more than a rub down and days rest.

It is important when a problem is outside of our experience and the underlying cause unknown that we have a lower threshold about getting advice from a vet or experienced person.

Lastly we can treat with anti inflammatory meds or such but if we do not know what we are treating then how can we know if the treatment is right. Masking symptoms can lead to underestimating the extent/seriousness of the cause. There are many things that will settle with minor intervention but only if it is the right intervention, when the treatment is wrong these can go on to become chronic injuries.
