marcomastrangelo 1
As it say in th title i cant get my ferrets to ea rabbit, iv recently got them off a guy who hadnt fed them it in a while due to not being able to take them out hence why i got them. 2 hobs are 4 years old the rest are 2 years ago young 1 is last years. there great workers bolted many rabbits and the will savage it when its alive but after i gut it and put it in the cage it will sit there untoched for 2days before i have to throw it out. He fed them on dry for the last year or so so obviously thats why but what the best way to get them to eat it i wasn sure i i should just be subborn and lave the rabit in there until thy have to eat it or what. and no there wasnt dry food in the cage when the rabbit was in. Any tips would be appreciated guys Quote Link to post

paulus 26
they will eat rabbit rather than thier front legs Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Try gutting and skinning a Rabbit, leave the kidneys in, this should get them going, then after this, you wont need to skin them. Have to say, after 45 years of Ferreting, and owned a few of the wee beasties, ive never had any that refused to eat rabbit, strange as you say they are good workers, so therfore they know what a Rabbit is. patterdalejoel 669
saying all this, i once got given a hare for the ferrets and they hardly touched it for a week, they would of had 2 rabbits in that time Quote Link to post

marcomastrangelo 1
cheers lads, and do you all gut your rabbits before putting them in for ferrets or leave guts in ? Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Some do,and some dont. the only reason i gut and skin them,as apart from the odd one which I curry, i skin and gut the Rabbit. The Whippet gets the two back legs and the back the front i split in half that goes to the ferrets, which I have a freezer in my shed, In the Summer because of Flies I feed complete, and in the Winter plenty of Rabbit. Any mixy The Whippet catches, and there were a few about early on. I gut them, and give them to the Ferrets skin and all. We all work differently, this is just my way, not saying its the best. Guest vin
My hob will not touch dry/complete..no matter how long you leave him...the only thing he will eat is flesh.. I got a little jill off a fella earlier this year..that was fed on kittykat..lol. . . when I dropped the 1st rabbit into the hutch..it never came off it for 2 days..it was sleeping in the skin and carcass whilst it consistantly nawed away,up until that point the poor little bugger had never even tasted Flesh or fur/feather. . .funny little creatures. one of my kits likes the complete biscuits..but In the winter I try and limit the amount of complete and switch to a constant supply of bunny and the odd pigeons etc etc. . Someone else said the thing about the amount of shite they do when on the complete..it just goes straight through them in my opinion..its rubbish, but it does help in the summer months.
