sunbeam 0
Hello, This is my first post, so HELLO I have a question that I'm finding hard to figure out. I have had air guns on and off over the years, my last being a Falcon FN19 (walnut and all the trimmings). It's been some years now since I sold it, but want another PCP. I've boiled my option down to a Daystate Air Ranger or Air Arms 510. These are both high quality guns as you'll know. But my question is :- What brand is the more reliable ? I have read bits and bobs saying the Daystates are fantastic guns, if you get a good one !, but I can't find anything saying Air Arms having problems?? Any help on what brand is more reliable? Many thanks, Rob. Quote Link to post

AR177 588
I have a Daystate Air Ranger, Id go for the HW100 Daystate are good if you get yourself one of the electronics ones such as a panther, but just for general shooting the cheaper ones such as AA or HW are a match to the performance if not better ATB Adam Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
HW's.. theobens.. dont forget theres better and worse variasions in the same make, get a bad un return with agro. i sold a very accurate daystate X2 a few year back, the edge of a ten pence at 50meter accurate, then it wandered 4-5 clicks..then wandered back a few clicks..then wandered, you get the message, 3 different scopes that were sound on the other gun, the guy sais ahh well if you'd bought the scope from me i would have sorted it yu.. i got shot asap, and wouldnt part with cash on ANY daystate again. thats attitude he can stick up his orafis i'm affraid. darkdd81 36
Hey Sunbeam My worst would have to be a Theoben Rapid 7 that seemed to be so unrealible it nearly put me of pcp's for good. It would chew o rings, leak air, magazines were poorly designed and expensive, the trigger was appaling, and i could'nt wait to get rid of it. This was an early gun i might add, and from what hear, the later models were a lot better. My favourite pcp is my current HW100T which is truly in a league of it's own in my opinon. It's solidly built, accurate in the extreme, and it's been 100% reliable. I have no experinence with Daystates so can not coment. I might add that a good friend of mine has an early AA S410 that he has had for at least 10 years that's never been serviced or maintained in any way since he's had it, and every now and then he comes shooting with me and it shoots as good as new, no air leaks and superbly accurate. Just my opinion. All the best and welcome. Quote Link to post
sunbeam 0
Thank you for the help. I did hold an HW100 in the shop. The stock felt to low, but I keep hearing how good they are. Can you get after market stocks for the HW100? If yes, where and what do they look like? Thanks, Quote Link to post

All the best and welcome. theres nowt wrong with a rapid 7 its down to the person useing it.if theres problems with o ring or air leak from around the bottle is probably someone as either trying to take bottle off when its stil got plenty air in it or not dry fireing when remove the bottle.haue to admit the 7 shot mags are rubbish but the 12 mag no problems with them.ive had 2 rapids in past .no problems with either. sunbeam 0
I'm a little stuck ?? I would like to buy a gun that is still made, unlike the Rapid 12. If I bought a Rapid 12, it would have to be second hand. I know good deals are to be found, but I could easily buy myself a dog. I really can't get my head around a HW100, even though it may well be the best gun !! The shops I have asked say buy the Air Ranger, but I've read they can be iffy and I don't want to hold the bottle (I tend to like to place my hand well down the stock) The AA510 seems nice, but again, I readf qulity issues? Maybe buy another Falcon?? are they any good? My old FN19 was fantastic. Rob. Quote Link to post

I bought that Rapid 7 new for £545 back in 1994. I had nothing but problems with it from day one. Most that i highlighted in my original post, and more. But for that sort of money back then, the trigger unit was reason enough for sending it back. i had 'upgraded' from a mint hw77 that i had paid £120 s/h for that rapid so to go from the rekord trigger unit to the one on the Rapid was a shock to say the least. Like i said before also, i heard they got better with improved production techniques so perhaps those niggles won't be such a problem anymore with the newer models. Shame they went bust though. I'm sure some people have had problems with there HW100's, but so far mine has been a dream. ATB Quote Link to post
sunbeam 0
How can I try a few? No shop around here that I know of lets you try before you buy. I know absolutly nobody that shoots air rifels. I guess I'll have to ring the gun shop in Newport to ask where there is a range that shoots air rifles. When I do find one, I can't see people queuing up to let me try their guns, or will they?? I live in South Wales (Cwmbran) is there anybody here that is local'ish ? I've only got one pile of cash to spend, I can't afford to chop and change like many do. Edited December 5, 2012 by sunbeam Quote Link to post
