robbielisa 11
Been a very slow start to the season for me due to one thing or another so decided to snatch the opportunity to pop out with dog for a quick shine tonight. (although it was only 8;30pm!! ) only had to drive for 5 mins to some of my local permission which i havent lamped before walked 4 large fields with only a couple of rabbits spotted and none of which i could slip the dog on. Rabbits were very lamp shy so im guessing someone is walking it fairly regular at night. Decided to try my luck somewhere else but on the way back to the car we came across a squatter in the middle of a recently ploughed section of field. a short 20 yard dash and first rabbit in the bag, she didnt retrieve straight to hand but being the first rabbit she's had in a little while i didnt make too much of it. Drove up to four more fields and flipped on the lamp, very surprised to find nothing at all within the first field. made my way into field number two and on went the lamp, a rabbit was imediately in the beam about 20 yards away and the dog was off. really thought it was going to be another short catch but the rabbit had other ideas and gave the dog a bit of a run. Put in 8 or 9 turns and almost made the hedge a couple of times with the dog turning it just in time. just as he thought he'd made it home my bitch put in her strike and rabbit number two was in the bag. Her retrieve was alot better this time and she raced back to me pleased as punch. There were more rabbits on the far side of the field but decided to leave them for another night. So all in all it was a nice way to spend an hour with the mutt and the ferrets have some food for the next few days. 1 Quote Link to post
