Having used various materials and types of pegs I'm with Sam007 and Country Joe as regards the heavy duty plastic tent pegs off ebay:

They may not be traditional but they are brilliant and as Sam says fold the net into four wrap the drawstring round and round the middle and then the hook at the top clips nicely in, great when throwing a net over a hedge (or even through a hedge) to a colleague.

For years I made my own, and also bought some ready made,

Recently i sent away on Ebay for 6 inch bright yellow plastic tent pegs.

They were as cheap as chips, hold in all types of ground, they are strong and wont break, and being bright yellow, easy to see.

As you can see by this post im impressed.

I use those yellow plastic ones on the quick set on the uneven ground. I make hard wood ones for purse nets, either off cuts of oak or mohagany skirting board i get of a joiner, i also make jerk baits for pike with this.

my old feller has put the plastic tent pegs on most of our nets, I hate them, they are way too long in my opinion, and if the bloody hook is left on them, they tangle up for the fun of it!

They do make seeing a net easier though if its a green colour, and they do the job well.

Hi Brimmer

I think you must be using different pegs to me.Mine are only 6" long

I used to cut off the hook but I now think the hook is good when you

wrap the draw cord around the net then tuck the hook in it doesn't

tangle at all

Got all sorts on my nets,,,the hazel I do exactly like giro,,, with a long point,, but not quite as long as giros , round the top the same,,,,,,,, and I sand them so there smooth.

I have also got some of those yellow plastic ones,,which are good but bulky,,,but the better plastic ones are the red ones there a bit thinner ,, but also bendy, think there made of nylon or pollathean,,, I realy rate these better than the yellow.

I also have some hazel and privet that's only about 4 inch, on some cheap little 4z ,,,, by feck you can get plenty in your pockets and no weight...... And set right they still catch.
