How old do you start ?

Hi I was just wondering how old do you start your dogs/pups I know people will say depends on the dog the breed and so on but we all know in the back of our heads what we like for me I start taking them shooting the odd bunny at about 7 1/2 months then ferreting at about 8 1/2 months and then giving them squatters at about 9 cheers all

I think allot will depend on the time of year they are born, if winter they will start the next season. if summer then the following season.

i have mine out at 4 month ratching about then start showing the lamp at 10 months then build up like that got a two year old doing his job day and night so works for me every one is diffrent in how they fetch a pup on but i like mine out young learning there job you know what your pup can and can not do. atb

my pups 4 months now il get them out ferreting in feb get them few handy rabbits over the summer start on the lamp next season and give them a run at a hare starting next november if they make the grade they wont run rabbits again

mine was out ferreting at 3mths

but i'm a great believer in breaking a pup on its own

no other dogs no other distractions

because it does;nt take a dog long to learn to hang back and let another dog do the work

Started my pup comin out with the other dogs at 4 months , learning her to get over walls, getting threw gates ,looking down the beam, down and threw ditches and bushes etc she was 100o/o at all them within a month.At 5 months old id drop a dead rabbit about 20 feet walk away put the lamp on and slip her learning her to run the beem for squatters and she would retrieve. Not saying it would work for all dogs and people but worked on my pup best of look with your pup pal

my pups are out with me and the ferrets soon after there jabs for the odd hour here and there just watching and snuffling about NO RUNNING that comes slowly on the odd one at 4/5 months then rested untill 7/8 months (still gentle) then work up and introduced to the lamp 10/12 months but nothing over stressfull untill they are full grown and have a good muscle tone

got a pup here i bread 7 month ago n he hasent done much at all i like them to be puppys till they get to 7 month then start them on buts ov ferretin n 3/4 easy runs on the lamp a neet
