Big bald beautiful 1,231
I was thinking the same I bought 2 bedlingtons from bishop ackland in 84/85 and both saw plenty of work but sadly never made the grade.wish i had the amount of work for my present dogs. if they had been good i would have stayed with bedlingtons as i like the look of the breed, but these two terrier put me off them big time. did you have many "just so" bedlingtons before you dropped on this one? I was thinking the same I bought 2 bedlingtons from bishop ackland in 84/85 and both saw plenty of work but sadly never made the grade.wish i had the amount of work for my present dogs.if they had been good i would have stayed with bedlingtons as i like the look of the breed, but these two terrier put me off them big time. did you have many "just so" bedlingtons before you dropped on this one? Had a few, have a look back through here... Clough failed, Jack Failed... Bron, Glas, Tango, Rusty, Yogi all done good... a lot of what I bred from the original litters were good digging dogs.. To be honest Milly is lacking in substance, not heart, if I can find the right dog to put on her with a jaw like a croc, and has done real work... then I will breed her this year... trouble is where do I find the right dog... ??? any offers lads...?? swanseajack 227
SJ, don't tell me with all your efforts you have no male to put her to ? Nothin that I have seen as yet, nothin that I have got excited about, I know of one or two that I would consider........... what I would like is for someone/anyone to come out of the woodwork and show me on here a GOOD DIGGING dog that would be suitable to use.. C'MON THEN>>>> Milly on the right.. another... an eye opener for the chap holding Milly and the fox, she drew it out before he could dig her 1 Quote Link to post

david2363 42
OK lads I obviously have my own opinions on the subject of show bred "psuedo" Bedlingtons being able to do the job of a true working terrier - I know that there are exceptions to every rule, but overall, for me , the people who call some of these open coated show dogs "workers" really haven't got a clue. What do the rest of you guys on this "working Bedlington" forum think. Just as a case in point, I have put a link to www.bedlingtonpictures.co.uk up, They have a picture of a pup, bred from Bisbee lines (this years Crufts best of breed) and they have labeled it -and I quote - "A TRUE WORKING BEDLINGTON PUPPY" All on the strength that it "chased a rat" - I kid you not! Is it just me who's being unreasonable here? What do you guys think? http://bedlingtondogs.blogspot.com/ YIS Dave _________________ Not a psuedo.... Quote Link to post

harv 5
I have a kc registered bitch, she looks nothing like them white balls of shite. Quote Link to post
david2363 42
Its not so much the KC reg thing that bothers me Harv (though being kc registered is usually the beginning of the end for a working breed). These show type fake Bedlingtons have been bred selectively to lose their terrier like characteristics - the very characteristics that make them able to work in the first place. These show breeders revel in the history and romantacism of the Bedlington, and the love to tell buyers of their (expensive) imposters, the usual shit like "the looks of the lamb and the heart of a lion", and the gullable fools part with 600 - 700 quid on the strength of it. jrt666 1
6 to 700 quid is that what the going rate is for one of them then? put me down for 3 of em i take my hat of to all you people are who are trying to keep the working beddy alive and doing what it was bred to do. before i joined this site i had no idea about what this breed of dog was ment to be used for and to be honest if i saw one of the fluffy show types being walked i would have thought oh my god look at that poodle thing. i guess what im trying to say is thanks to all the people on this site who have educated me about the true beddy. think we can all tell that by the length of the 'working bedlingtons 2005' thread that the breed generates a fair bit of intrest and long may it continue. swanseajack you started the thread so i think a big is in order on a last note,if i now see one of the fluffy show types being walked i now think 'what a shame' Quote Link to post
