Bushers no doubt. Edited to say, the dogs head looks in proportion to the rest of him. I've seen dogs with half his head size bossing Charlie. Heart size for me every time. He was til I put some lead into him with a 4.10 .... This is the same dog fox Tag had a run in with back in January, staggered out of the hole back then looked like he had been hit with a cricket bat.. swanseajack 227 Posted August 1, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 1, 2008 Milly's coming into season... seeing as I only had one pup last time I am going to breed her again, 'to the right dog' anyone know of any ?? title of this thread is dated 2005 and I have yet to see or here of anythng that would make me travel to breed her... ANY SUGGESTIONS LADS AND LASSES... ??????? Something that works, really works, stays until dug to etc etc, of the right type, meaning right size, conformation, temperament, from good lines, cmon then give us your answers, nothing accepted on a postcard. gaz 284 Posted August 1, 2008 Report Share Posted August 1, 2008 Depends how much you want to keep the line close to beddy blood imo,i agree there seems to be shortage of decent digging bedlingtons avalible today..at least 95% are now used as bushing/rabbiter's and maybe a rar or two now but im sure theres a few out there that doesnt get a chance and as you will know aswell most boys that are still digging regular are using black dogs and the like,I have the opinion that its not just a lack of good beddies thats availible at the moment but a lack of geniune digging boys that use the breed to try and find a few handy dogs that have the minerals to justify breeding a litter of geniune digging dogs.It pains me to say it S/J,although i have liking for the breed myself and would like to see them grafting on fox.. i think if you are serious of keeping back a pup or two from milly for earth work you may need to look at another type of terrier from geniune lads,i suppose your post kinda answers your own question really...if a man like yourself with all the knowlege and expierence of the breed cant find the type you desire after looking from 2005........... I agree with you in as much as there probably are some good Bedlingtons of the right type and substance that dont get the chance they deserve, I also believe there are some out there that are getting dug to by lads that A. Don't use the internet B. Dont want the publicity of having a digging Bedlington.. As you say most lads use black dogs and the like, and use tried and tested stock.. the outcross with other breeds of terriers has been done to death and if i do it again the beddy will be so far removed from what it should be i may as well keep black dogs Lakelands myself.. Cant do that, I DO like the bedlington and it's temperament and know if I keep plugging away some good will come of it... plenty of failures I guess, hopefully plenty of succes... ps Thanks for your pm will keep it in mind... He Killed a bitch pup I had, got some tempermental issues which seem to be getting better as he gets older, but to date he hasn't failed ie he does his job and does it well, works exactly like Milly, up and at em and mixing it... similar breeding, dam same, Yogi's his sire...I don't think I'd have any issues or worries about size as they're pretty much level.... I know he's still a young dog but my options are limited as you know, do I wait another season, I seen enough from him to have confidence in him, whether he jibs later on in his career I'm prepared to take a chance on that...
