Same could be said of the Manchester at some point too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here's a later drawing 1930's showing the roach back as stabs said, whippets were probably added to the gene pool, giving this racier type of bedlington. Rabbit coursing was banned by the 1911 (1912 Scotland) Act and it was really popular from the 1890's onwards. This and the ban on ear cropping caused the decline in popularity of the Manchester, which had previously been one of the most popular dogs in the country. It never really picked up again after that blow, unlike the Bull Terrier whose fortunes dipped due the crop ban, but picked up again once the breeders sorted the ear carriage out.
