the durham digger 127
Due to local flooding i always seem to be at work at the moment... pumping flood water into the river don or 1 of its tributarys, on average im working between 18 and 20 hours a day, so iv decided to take the terriers... and im pleased i did. Being a born and bred fox digging man i have always neglected mink and now i realise iv been missing a trick, today my little uns and me hunted and killed 2 big dog mink, and the hunting was first rate and a great test of the dogs finding ability, and prey drive.... the mink get where dogs cant so if your dog doesnt have the drive to dig on then u might as well f**k off home to watch X factor or wank off watching jeremy kyle. Mink also tend to bolt seval times and take the chase over land and water before the dogs finally get him into tree roots or a rabbity spot that they can dig on2 him and deal with him...... im sure my black pup learned a trick or two today, not a bad day considering i was at work... being payed for working my little uns, dont make my mistake..... dont disregauard mink, they are great sport! 2 Quote Link to post

reddawn 2,173
deffo mate, funny ye should say that, id said on here before that we were over run way mink till the otters come back to the river a few years ago, still the odd mink about but they are usually found in the wee ponds an lakes along the river Quote Link to post
bobby blackheart 1,209
by me they have moved into the little brooks and waterways away from main river-and a few of the allotments-lads caught them in traps after they gone in for the rats/mice. Quote Link to post

albert64 1,882
on tues morning i took the dog for a walk through some rough fields heading towards the mersey theres always a few rabbits about and the odd fox, next thing the dog puts up a mink which runs down the bank to the river as the mink makes the water the dog launches himself from the top bank right into the middle of the river which is probably 15ft up and flying, the mink kept showing itself and the dog kept hunting it with me trying to get him out the river we must of gone 200 yds before he lost him in a drain on the other side fair play to the dog he had to get back in the river and come to my side, i've never known of mink in this area but found a half grown one dead this morning Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
There used to be a few hole'd up accross from the prison on the river Don but they seem to have moved on since the enviroment lads cut most of the willows down, i walked there yesterday and they'v cut the remaining willows down now, b*****ds, they might be on the island between the salmon ladder and the main river, thats were i,d look, send the dogs over , buster. the durham digger 127
Yeah when i was still up in durham mink were few and far between, but the river wear is a clean river with a good head of game fish and a fairly healthy otter population... but since moving to yorkshire i bump in2 mink regularly, i think its down to the river don still being heavily contaminated from the steel works, but i do tend to see most on tributarys such as the river e-beck, the went and land drains... great fun! The Don aint as bad as you think, i,v had trout out of there this year and i came across a bloke who had a salmon and a trout, good head of barble, chub and roach too, you need 30lb plus to frame on the rotherham opens at sprotbrough if the river is running at normal level, plenty of food for the Mink. I,v not seen Mink on the E-beck yet but i did come across some fancy kind of trap early on this year down Toll-bar way, good hunting fella, buster. Quote Link to post
