cops shoot dog in NY, right or wrong???

Recommended Posts

Seen this before. I think it was excessive force. Having said that, it looks like a pit type dog and was running towards the officer... Maybe a tazer would of been more appropriate. If the owner was having a seizure you can't blame his dog for wanting to protect him. If he was just drunk then I blame the owner.

Seems like the police handled the situation poorly.

Have you seen the split second it took him to draw his gun and fire. I dont think there was that much time to think about and fire taser, which i am guessing is far less accurate!

Yeah I did. But we also don't know the amount of time the police were there before this incident. From the start of the video you can see that the dog is barking and showing signs of aggression standing over it's owner. Surely the person that contacted the police would of mentioned that a pitbull belongs to the man and is loose and not happy. I know what you are saying, when put in this situation i'm sure most people would do what they have to do. But the police could have been ready with a taser or something else that would restrain the dog and not kill it..

No idea what the circumstances were but one thing I will say is the shot seemed f*****g wreckless! I would like to think I would take a bite off of a dog before shooting towards a crowd of people simp

how can we say if its right or wrong when we wernt in the shooters shoes??? i know for one thing if i did shoot the dog i would of put another in it soon as it dropped to make sure it was dead

It says the owner never came and claimed it after it's recovery so we can only assume it was owned my a complete moron,

This was the woman who you can see in the video.

The woman, Larrisa Udovik, was distraught. I couldn’t make out what she was saying to the CBS reporter, just see her outrage and sadness, but a few minutes later she told me, “I was coming from an eye appointment so I had my pupils dilated, so I couldn’t see very well, but my husband told me, ‘Look at the police attacking the dog!’ He’s a dog lover—he grew up with dogs. 'They’re attacking the dog and the dog is only trying to defend his owner.' So I went a little closer to see, and as I got closer, the dog just went like this to me”—she indicated a nudge by brushing a hand against her knee—“The dog knew that I wasn’t attacking him, that it was the police, the enemy was the police. So he started barking at the police and they used the fact that he had brushed against me. It didn’t even hurt. I didn’t even know that he did it.”

Its just a dog at the end of the day and if it had turned on a woman or child, all hell would have let loose, and then you may have been saying why didnt they shoot it!

Whats happened has happened, and thats the way of the world.

True. I was just thinking if they didn't take the shot at that moment then the dog could have gone off and mauled someone and then the officer would be to blame. It's one of those things that could get you arguing all night. I still think they should of tasered it though ( providing the circumstances gave them enough of an opportunity to do it )

But it's not something I would like to continue to discuss or argue :thumbs:

This video is renowned for causing arguments on internet forums.

Look at the vid and you will see the 2nd cop hit the dog with pepper spray. The maybe don't even have taser.

Why is there such little attention to the bloke who's on the floor? He's the one who needed attention, I'd have shot the f*****g dog aswell, whether it's protecting it's owner or not, if it had grabbed a young child before it was shot everyone would have been singing the coppers praises.

My thoughts exactly, a ricochet off the road could have made a right mess of his mate at that angle or someone on the bus
