lazer eye surgery does it work?

Recommended Posts

was just wondering if any of you off this site have had lazer eye surgery and if it worked.

ive been to the opticians and its borderline for me having to wear glasses, is it worth me saving up and getting my eyes done. or is the surgery a waist of time and money.

Most people need glasses for reading and close up as they age: mid forties onwards normally, but eyes continue to change for many years. I don't know if they'd do surgery so early in case the eyes changed again: worth finding out.

Ive looked into this loads of times as i wear contact lenses. My lenses cost me about £15 a month and the surgery costs 800upwards. My mates just paid £2000 for his. So thats a lot of months before id break even financially on what id save on lenses.

My mate ummmed and arrred about having his lazered for a long time. All these "offers" on the net... buy one get one free, £395 per eye etc... all sounds dodgy as anything to me. He said he turned up for one interview and the surgen said he can do it for £395 an eye or £800 an eye for a "better surgery". Now who in their right mind would go "yeah okay mate i`ll go for the cheap one" as its your eyes we are talking about. And to make matters worse he said all the surgeons there were wearing glasses!!!!

In the end he went to a place on harley street and got them done properly. He said it was fine. He has drops to put in for 6 months and he says his eyes get dry easily. He`s just had his 6 month check and one eye is 20/20, the other is a bit less, so they are saying they can re-lazer for free.

20/20 is another thing which puts me off. 20/20 is what you need for driving. But with my glasses or lenses i get a lot better eyesight than that. Last time I went to the opticians I could read the bottom line on the chart, and yet 20/20 was something like 3 lines from the bottom. So, whilst after lazer my eyes would be 20/20 I dont think id be happy with that after 20 years of having better than 20/20 vision.

So all in all, personally id just stick with lenses. These days you get daily disposable ones which you dont have to clean, my missus has monthly disposable ones which she can sleep in and never take out. Its not the hassle it used to be with turning your bathroom into some sort of chemisty lab!!!

I had it done 7 years ago after wearing glasses and contact lenses from age 12............it is the most liberating thing I have ever done! No more steamed up glasses, allergic reactions to glasses touching my skin, broken glasses after crashes off horses, no more eye infections/irritations from wearing contact lenses and panic on losing lenses. Look into it, mine was done with Optical Express......best £1000 I ever spent.

I've had it done, best money I have ever spent I would of paid double for it! Operation only took 6 mins. It's painful first day then next day or two eyes feel a bit gritty but worth every penny!

I opted for top treatment as healing time is a lot quicker, my sister had cheapest option and both same result just heal quicker with dearer one as its a finer cut in the eye!

My vision was a lot better then 20/20 after surgery was around a year ago I had it done and don't get dry eyes etc! I'm due a check up soon although I don't have lifetime after care I got 2 years!

One thing I will say is if you get it done you can smell your eyes burning and everything is black so it's scary for a few mins! I watched a few videos on YouTube of operation being done first!
