I have 6 sporting Lucas terriers a kelpie x running dog and a bull terrier. They are all worked in some way every day even if it's just bushing round the village football field. The shifts I work means I get 2 weeks off every 5 weeks so plenty of time to get out and about

The number of terriers you keep should depend on how many days a week you are out and how much land you have access to. However it's a fine line because you have got to make way for dogs that don't make the grade etc etc so it depends ultimately on what you find manageable. I have one entered dog, one ready to enter and a young pup. And that's enough for me! :victory:

the thing with terriers is you ve to keep bringing on the younger dogs as you never know the day you could loose a worker as the job has many hazards but still keep a number that means there getting steady work a fella with 4 terriers worked hard will have a better standaed of worker than say a fella with 15 terriers who only puts a small number of digs over each dog at the end of the day its actual work that makes a dog they learn feck all in a kennell !

I have a 9 month. Beddi whippet who has done a bit of ferreting and caught a couple of rabbit while out walking, gonna start her watching on the lamp in the next few weeks also I have a 8 week old pat x lakey so will be (with a bit of luck) be using her for digging when she comes of age...... 2 dogs is plenty for the time and work I have available atm but considering adding another terrier at some point in the near future.

I think it also depends on the type of terrier,ie hard, sounder that you kennell.A couple of sounders will probably get you through a season but when you keep a hard type you will need at least 4 to 6 terriers about you.I also like to have at least 1 youngster coming on each season and its a great feeling when you get the 1st dig to a youngster.
