moxy 617
A pal of mine has recently had his splitter chored by some lightfingered shite. So now needs to replace it and as always on a limited budget. Say up to 900 notes. He hasn't the luxury of getting a tractor to his log pile so it has to be a petrol hydraulic or similar. We have been looking at one called a Titan pro. 10 ton 6 hp. Which fits his budget and should do the job. Has anybody used or got one of these machines and how does it rate?? Or does anyone recommend a similar splitter for around the same price. It has to be an upright. If you check out the Titan pro you will see the operating cycle and safety features to make it work. Obviously I will be removing these and customising to suit. All manner of timber will be thrown at it and I appreciate that it won't cope too well with knotty shite. All sensible replies welcomed and thanks in advance Moxy.
moxy 617
Anyone??
terryd 8,385
I had that type of splitter about 8 years ago when I was selling logs. My only gripe with it was the speed of the ram it was quite slow which was a pain when you were in a hurry so I often got my chopper back out. But they do make it easy Despite the power you still have to use your head with the knotty bits and nibble at them but it will do them Edited November 28, 2012 by terryd
moxy 617
Cheers terry. I have viewed the vid and seen the slow cutting speed but fast return. An option would be to change the hyd motor and or fit a foot pedal to get rid of those gay operation handles.
lurchian 1
youd be better of with a cone splitter much faster easy to use

Petrol hydraulic and upright. Does it come within budget? What he would be better off with is mine. Which is tractor mounted and 30 ton splitting pressure. But it's just not going to happen Cheers
dytkos 17,784
There was an upright hydraulic one with footpedals on one of The Daily Telegraph supplements last week, Machine Mart or similar and only about 30 quid. Might be handy in the short term? HTH. Cheeers, D.
