Garden shooting

Recommended Posts

as long as the pellet stays on your land or in your case garden

Not quite as simple as that I'm affraid. All speciese of animal and birds are protected by law.

You need a genuine lawful reason to kill them

It's a minefield that needs to be navigated very carefully and above all legally. If you've got it all covered then your sorted.

Are they sh!tting everywhere and in enough volume to cause a hazard to human and livestock health?

Are they raiding you veg patch? Are the tree rats getting into your home and causing damage and destruction? Houses have gone up in flames when they have been chewing through the electrical wiring you know! If so or they meet any other part of the General Licenses then you have a lawfull reason and that part is covered.

Take a look at the current general license's to find out more about the conditions under which you can lawfully kill them.

If you have tried scaring them away in the past and they are still causing a problem and they meet any of the criteria on the GL's then you may legally shoot them even if the neighbours complain.

But do be carefull, a wounded bird or tree rat makes its way into another garden your up the shit creek without a paddle!

If a neighbour sees a wounded critter on your land and you do nothing to put it out of its misery again, your in court and possibly a small room with bars on the windows for a while.

If a pellet leaves your property your commiting a criminal offense.

If your neighbours reckon they dare not go outside while your shooting (even if your pellets stay inside your boundries) you are "interupting" their lawfull business and you are again up that creek!

So do it all responsibly, legally and safely :victory:

Like the title said, my gardens full of woodies and grays is it legal to shoot them?

As long as the pellet stays within your own boundary fence/hedge and on your land you'll have no problems at all. It may be a good idea to inform your neighbours if you plan to shoot any of these quarry species, just in case a they do not drop straight to the ground and a few end up in their gardens. Our neighbours thought we had Bird Flu when a dead Magpies began appearing along our adjoining hedge rows. Although once they knew they had no problems
