wirral countryman 2,110
Well it looks like I'm the exception to the rule,I'm out to catch them on their first feed around 7pm,I'm back home tucked up in front of my logburner and whiskey toddy in hand when you lot are just going out lol's!! When I had no permission year's ago we used to go around 10 ish when the farmer's and keeper's went to bed but we never caught any more than now really, the biggest difference from year's ago would be that we never used to see a fox untill near midnight, where as now they are about from early on,we don't go for big numbers just a few hour's on the bunnies, here's some of tuesday nights haul with my youngest lad, WM 3 Quote Link to post

stripes 401
yes, taken foxes at 7 in the dark winter months, and also 1 in the morning, it depends on weather conditions,, as long as wind is blowing in your face and not carrying your scent towards the fox. I suppose it also depends on fox numbers in your area..is your area heavily lamped out. Quote Link to post
wullieh 53
back home already as very poor 90 mins waliking the fields that were like a quagmire, only seen 3 rabbits but next to the whins with very little chase for the dogs but the best part of the night was when my mates wellie fell off when it got stuck in the mud and he landed on his hands and knees but as for tonight i came home with a blank.. crorider 174
I'm new to it aswell mate in my first season, Spent a month asking questions on here before i actually got out. Found some helpful stuff but ive learnt more in the 10 or so times ive been out on the lamp than the whole month being on here. theres not really many rabbits to go at round my way but i've definitely found there to be a lot more about the later i go out. 3 am is when i like to start. Another thing ive found aswell is that the much moon phase doesnt seem to matter half as much as the amount of wind in your face. As long as theres wind and clouds ive had decent nights even with an almost full moon but ive been out when theres no moon at all but also no wind and struggled to get within 100 yards of anything. Good luck mate, just get out as much as you can and youll be racking up the numbers in no time Quote Link to post

I've been out when there has been no moon but its really calm and can't get near anything. Go out when it's blowing a gail and slatting it down and usually have a good night regardless of moon. TOMO 26,113
Like Wirral countryman, I have been out from 5 pm, as soon as it's dark, and done good, had a couple of hours and been back in time for corrie....lol Also done it the other way ,,, and set the alarm for 4 am,, and get a couple of hours befor work,,, this way you don't loose a compleat nights kip, if your working next morning,,,, saves the mrs getting on your case as well. So long as its dark,, give it a go,,,of course early doors, realy you need permission,, unless you do quik little hit and run moves , quik 5 mins on a place and move on. 5 Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
I did a shift down Norfolk. Albeit I had a snooze from Norfolk to Derby as a passenger, but from there back to Cumbria, the task of driving was all mine, with only the radio as company. I drank 6 cans of red bull & 1 relentless, that evening but as I was passing Wigan I had the urge to sleep! I had to drop to 50mph sitting behind a wagon, windows wide open & blowers on cold. Really, I should of pulled in for a kip, but I overcome the tiredness. Late night lamping shifts can be dangerous, in more ways than one. So lads if you need to pull in for a sleep, do it. I think I was lucky that morning, next time I may not be as lucky Quote Link to post
