If it puts gear in the bag does it really matter if it yaps? No it isn't really what you want but then again a dog that can't jump or retrieve or kill 50 rabbits or 5/5 hares or pull a Fallow buck sin

Agreed ..and so is jibbing/jacking,non retrieving,hunting up on the lamp,pulling up at fences for a coursing dog,not following into cover,not jumping,pulling on a slip,not taking ALL quarry,being a b

Very good idea. It gets used to them quickly or it breaks its neck. Genius!

I would disagree that yipping is nothing to do with frustration, it may be inherited, but imo, it has everything to do with frustration.............

no pal, can`t blame it on frustration else all dogs would yip, i always start em young and never have a prob. mainly inherited with odd exception

have been rearing pups into running dogs for 30 years, have one now that stopped its 1st hare at 8 and a half month, single handed of course, never makes a squeak. running to early makes them yap is talking shit pal.

my pals dog yaps like a hound and so did its mother, every dog when behind a hare will get frustrated at some point but that don`t make them yap. some do and some don`t, don`t tell me i`m talking shit because i don`t talk shit pal.

I would disagree, dogs that are entered to young, overmatched on a regular basis will be prone to yapping through frustration..........

absolutely right mate the main cause of yapping is starting a pup too young and asking to much from it which causes frustration, when it becomes a yapper there is no cure in my opinion and it`s not all about getting caught it`s also about the alarm bell to whatever quarry is in the field !!

Still disagree, if a dog is run on numerous bunnies sat near hedges, in woodland or is just plain old fashioned outrun it MAY start yipping in frustration. Also if a dog is run unfit and outclassed it may yip out of frustration.......

Franks Barn, don't take this the wrong way matey as we all do things different ie: entering dogs to work...why would you feel the need to run a pup of 8 1/2 month on a hare?..the point being exactly what?...how many seasons would you get out of a dog?..Not trying to nit pick fella, just i'm amazed quite frankly with your post?...would you be getting the pup upto a fair stage of fitness to run a hare at that age?..ATB Andy.
