Ive got a friend with a beddy/fell x whippet /grey. 18 months and keen as mustard, puts 100 percent in but yaps like feck. Is it worth watching to see how he comes on-is it hereditary-im thinling this because I have a very good bitch I would of put him too if he stayed good for a couple of years, but the yapping worries me to much. He also has a good sibling that doesnt yap but if its hereditary im gonna steer clear of him too. A shame because otherwise hes a nice dog

its only a pup so it might grow out of it,but chances are its in it for life! does it open up on every run even if its right up on its rabbits arse?

years ago i was given a young bitch and she was a yapper.... i listened to all the advice like "rest her up" "find her easy ones" "catch one, call it a night" etc etc did all that, took her out, still yapping lol after so long i gave her to a guy who went out in the day with a couple of spaniels and he couldnt care less if she yapped so all ended all good.......

Sounds like your mate ruined the dog.Give a dog lots of work if after a few months its still yapping its stuck.jmo

If it puts gear in the bag does it really matter if it yaps? No it isn't really what you want but then again a dog that can't jump or retrieve or kill 50 rabbits or 5/5 hares or pull a Fallow buck single handed isn't either lol...I've been around dogs for a good old few years and I'm yet to see the "perfect" dog..just get on with the job with the tools available to you..ATB Andy

workin dogs in packs and do this they yap to get the others in on the hunt.plus the breed is beddy/fell whippet all known for yappin its a terrier thing

My mate was telling me the other day about a coursing meet he went to back in the days before the ban came into effect...all Saluki types,said there was more yapping from them then what comes from a pack of fell hounds on the scent of a fox lol..so don't be fooled into just thinking its a rare occurrence? Some of these Fen yappers were being bought and sold for thousands and will no doubt of been bred from?

I would get ride of a yapper no matter what it could do just the way I am my old 1stxbed whippet never yapt once or it wouldnt be here sorry there no room for yappers something I hate no matter what the dog can catch it's gone a terrier yes anything bigger not way strange as the old bedx dam the rillington bitch made more noise than a icecream van yet her daughter was quit as a mouse funny how it goes sometimes eye then again deisel wouldent carry fckall as a pup no retrieve what's so ever something I was worried about and she turned out a better retriever than any right to your hand no matter the obstacle and fast at that I was out the other night into a park over 3 fences a wall a park full of horses right down the beam bang straight back over the lot right into my hand a dog like that worth it's wait in gold

its either been entered to young or not had easy runs get up tight to them rabbits be for you slip
