andyfr1968 772
Don't use engine oil!!!! You need to soak it in a pure silicon oil. It'll diesel like feck otherwise. bloody hell andy i phoned chambers where i bought the really expensive fcukin washer and specifically asked should i use SILICONE oil and was told definitely no i had to use thin engine oil WTF !!!! so now what should i do mate ? If I said ignore Chambers, who have been doing this for donkeys, sold you the part, and have a bigger selection of air rifle parts than probably anyone in the world, and told you to soak it in dog piss, then who would you believe? i'd definitely leave the dog piss out, but i'd believe andy, as he worked in the gun trade and has a very good reputation on here for tuning rifles, my own and pianomans included. ...and Chambers know nothing about air rifles???? ....and yeh, I think the dog piss could honk a bit under pressure! Mineral engine oil will cause dieseling in a springer. Silicon won't. It has a much higher flash point. Who knows who Fry spoke to at Chambers? It must have been the tea boy who gave that little jem of miss information to him, it's just wrong, simple as. 1 Quote Link to post

If you are getting that sort of accuracy and repeatability then rifle, pellet, scope and shooter are working fine! its one of them cheap chinky scopes i bought with a rifle a few years back dont know the name but its only for a kid an i am giving it him free as for my shooting it is at close range mate trust me i aint exactly a great shot! im a tryer though lol. Yeah, possibly a hint for 5 minutes, chill out, what do you think we have been using for over 100 years to soften and seal? Nobody is talking about pouring a gallon or two into the piston, and obviously times change and new products are developed, sometimes improving things, but I don't rate silicon for this job, neither does it seem do Chambers! Hey ho, that's what forums are about! 1 Quote Link to post

andyfr1968 772
Nice to see one of those Haenals again, I had one about 40 years ago and thought it was great at the time. Accuracy wasn't too bad but the only scope I had was a cheap 4x20. When I moved up to a 4x40 I thought I was in heaven! We didn't use engine oil, silicone oil or dogs piss in those days, all leather washers were treated with something called "neatsfoot oil" but you could use warmed "dubbin" which I always thought lasted longer. I hope the lad enjoys the Haenal and looks after it. Regards Tim. Quote Link to post

I've been watching 'American Gun' on TV and they are always making trigger's lighter, you just file down the hook that catches on the other bit so there sin't so much for you to pull..... It's probably on some sort of catchup TV or youtube, worth watching especially for Paige..... ATB, Andy Quote Link to post
