jakes red 1
Hi all im Darren and new to the site. Ive been looking through the older posts on the forums and am impressed with the ammount of knowledge and help you guys share with each other, the sound advice given is the main reason for me joining and that with all the anti's out there, there's actually a place ive found where i can speak with like minded people. Down to business... I have a breeding pair of Chesapeak Bay retrievers which have only had one litter to date, Both work (not as regulary as i would like) but both take part in field trials when ever i get the oppertunity to attend the shows. After rearing the litter i found it quite hard to sell the pups as people loved the look of the pups but didnt rate the workability of the breed. I ended up handing the pups over to a friend who trains dogs for customs. All six are still currently working, i am thinking of breeding again as i would like another dog pup to hold back for future working but do not want to be left with a large litter again. Does anybody know of people who work Chesapeaks? If more dog men use the breed nowadays i dont mind breeding again but would only breed the pair if the pups were to work. Your thoughts please lads? Mooch. 177
Hi Darren, welcome to the forum and welcome to the gundog section. I've only ever seen 1 Chesapeake and that was at my gundog club's novice dog test so not really a breed I'm familiar with. Good on you for researching the market before breeding more pups. Too many people do it the other way around but it's also great your previous litter work for HMRC. At least they're working and not fat, lazy pets in inappropriate homes. Quote Link to post
