border lad 1,047
that was there down fall, slow to mature, a good mix is colliegrey x deerhound grey/ made very usefull field dogs wether you were rabbiting, but they come to there own on deer, and Hares, I never used them on any thing else, this was all back in the late 60s early70s ((( No Hunting Bans in place then, but poaching was a serious offence up here in SCOTLAND, ((((( but who would dare take anything that belonged to the LAIRD A VERY SERIOUS OFFENCE ! Taz-n-Lily 62
My deerhound x is still a pup. 2 years, 2 months now. He's improving, but it's slooooooooooow. I wouldn't trust him around stock yet, that's for sure. On the + side he should live to a good, old age, and on legal quarry he should be running for a good few years. Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
I know that your dog d lurcher was exactly what i was looking for before i bought my pup... Yep im jealous Quote Link to post
Lost Generation 93
In the good old days mine had all killed large game by a year old but the more deerhound they have, the slower they tend to be to mature. I have a bitch now who is just shy of 31" and she wasn't really mature until about two or so but is quite formidable now. Just give it some gentle work and see how it goes Quote Link to post

kranky 507
Run her single, don't double her up. They can be feckers for sitting back and letting the other dog do the work. Quote Link to post
