fitchet 788
Was out last night with a mate and he commented that he'd never seen a dog work properly at night without a slip like mine. Now obviously when theres a few of you slips are a must but how many people can truly say there dog can be worked on the lamp without a need for the lead ? Opinions please ? ATB Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
I can if i am by myself and the grounds not lifting with rabbits.. If its busy and the dogs sees one moving in the beam shes off like a rocket.. I dont mind using a slip it has no bearing on what ends up in the bag Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I can lamp my bitch without a slip but shes a bit keen for first couple of runs, usually after weve had a couple and she calms down i dont need the slip then unless theres 2 of us and i have to hold her back when my mate slips his dog. fitchet 788
Prefer to use a slip, don,t really want the dog chasing lost causes.. Thats what i mean by truly working without a slip lead. If your dog is running rabbits that YOU havent chosen for it. Ive allways tought them to work without it and to only run when hiss or keep the lamp on.ive only ever had 2 dogs that wouldnt. For me its another skill a good dog should have. When your trying to carry rabbits bag full of gear battery and lamp with numb hands its a godsend especially when you come to a gate or fence. ATB Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Aye, i think thats the thing, there is a difference between having dogs off a slip and them chasing what you light up, and properly working dogs with no slip, abe to walk up on a rabbit, with the dog at your side until you send them in. Not a fecking chance with mine, being pure sight hound, he only has to think hes seen a bunny down the beam and hes fecking off at top speed! 1 Quote Link to post
