WILF 46,787
Schindler's List. Not a war film in the context of most of the replies here, but it's quite simply the best film ever made concerning war. Shove your action scenes and shoot-outs up your arse, get a real look at how WWII was. aye cause thats a good account of ww11 lol The brutality of the Nazi's, the day to day struggle of the jews and the story of Oskar Schindler. I'd say it's (aside from certain scenes) the most realistic portrayal of War-era Germany ever put onto the silver screen. That and Band of Brothers. I personally think that " The Boy In The Striped Pajamas" was a much better cinematic portrayal of the odd juxtaposition between a good family man doing what he thought was right for his children, his race and his country and the brutal finality of the Jews lives in the camp. It also showed that if you don't think of someone as " human" then a normal man can become what others would call a monster. Much better than the Jew Spielbergs Hollywood enhanced shock fest!! I've yet to watch that. I'll be sure to look it up, and subsequently share my thoughts on how it stacks up to others in the genre.

What does the fact that Spielberg is jewish have to do with anything? Kirk Douglas was in a fine war film, Paths Of Glory I dont recall anyone pointing out that he was jewish. The Deer Hunter, and Apocalypse Now are good films, imo, The best by far, imo, is Come And See, by Elem Klimov.
gonetoearth 5,144
Schindler was not a jew just a humaniterian. Who relized what was happing and decided along with others to save as many fellow human beings as he could. A brave man , the film is true to the book the screen play was passed to survivours to read and were allso invited to the set worthy of the awards it recived , as was tom hanks in the saving of private ryan another true story , any one with a war fetish should watch The world at war documentry or do the grave yard tour of normandy , pegersus bridge at arnihiem or go to poland to see the gas chambers Dont let the truth get in the way of a good story eh

scothunter 12,609
you want the truth,he was a war profiteer plain and simple, and yes he did treat his workers a bit better, but so did other industrialists of that era.schindler was well in the inner circle of top ss officers, prob where he heard the first rumblings of there was not going to be a thousand year reich after all.so oscar did what any other other quick witted businessman does.thinks on his feet, and turns a bad situation in his favour. dont think anyone said schindler was a jew,and saving private ryan isnt a true story. the only truth to the story was a private had lost his brothers, but it turned out they werent all dead, the british liberated one from the japs, and no search party was sent out for him.he was sent home, but hey dont let the truth get in the way of a good hollymood movie eh. Its_grim_up_norf 577
Pretty much every single one has been said already, all of the classics. This is a film that I enjoyed that I was surprised hadn't already been mentioned. Probably a similar film to Iwo Jima in that, it isn't 100% war. But a little bit deeper. Its called the thin red Line. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3chv4eYU2MQ
