Saving private Ryan, we were soldiers anf the band of brothers series was good   this still makes me laugh every time I see it though

Not a film, but one of the best war books ever ( if not the best) IMHO is " All Quiet On The Western Front"......I had a second edition as a kid and read it more than a few times right up to adulthood.

Schindler's List.

 

Not a war film in the context of most of the replies here, but it's quite simply the best film ever made concerning war. Shove your action scenes and shoot-outs up your arse, get a real look at how WWII was.

Says the man currently rewriting the American War of Independence on the playstation... :rolleyes::laugh:

The brutality of the Nazi's, the day to day struggle of the jews and the story of Oskar Schindler. I'd say it's (aside from certain scenes) the most realistic portrayal of War-era Germany ever put onto the silver screen.

 

That and Band of Brothers.
