how to become a gamekeeper

Recommended Posts

Buy some pheasant poults. Raise em. Then charge for the privilege of shooting em. I can see a window for urbanisation too. Raise em in your garden then let the neighbours know when they'll be released. All can stand on their postage stamps and shoot em as they fly over (straight up so as to stay legal and preserve sky dishes etc).

What oh chaps! Now the proletariate can be Hooray Henrys too! Hooray!

It's helpful if you get known as a good lad, who is responsible, handy round a shoot etc. Will really help, if you know a few fok, when it comes to looking for a job. A lot of jobs are never really advertised publicly.

f*****g crazy aint it I would and always did take lads with experience over college I know it's a generalisation but I worked on the theory that a lad with experience already knows how hard the job really is where as a college lad usually has the idea that the jobs a piece of piss and that they should get a headkeepers job straight from school LOL ask any lad as went to college how many in his class made it as a keeper aint usually many

 a lad who's been on the job even just as a 'taster' with his local shoot knows the crack! ie up at all hours, all weathers, busting your bollocks, chasing birds (not the human kind either!!), i've picked up a shotgun a handful of times in all my time as an underkeeper so a lot of people will be disappointed at the lack of shooting...i miss it!! Doing a bit of unpaid 'keeping over the winter and i'll hopefully get back into a paid role next year. :victory:

I would advise the lad to get round every game farm he can now for next years season not only will he gain experience rearing but he will get contacts and for sure in this game it is who you know as was said above most jobs won't be advertised so it is up to him to put in the leg work.

Rubytex hope you get back full time mate  do you have anything lined up?

:victory: possibly in North Yorkshire but i've heard nothing back for a while. Other than that i'll just see what vacancies arise after the current season ends and go from there.

David mc let us know how he gets on if he does decide to go down the deep dark route that is game keeping :thumbs:
