B.P.R 2,798
My whippet yaps. Its always once, one the first turn and then shes mostly silent. Doesnt bother me or bother people ive been out with. Msube she yaps because she was started on the lure? She broke both her back legs so had a lot of time out when she was under 8months and then small runs on safe ground on the lure. I know a few people who have had dogs that yap and say it was no problem whatsoever. They aint all perfect. Mines just super keen. Got a lurcher pup here almost 9 months old. Silent as a whistle on the lamp. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I do understand skycat but just a idea even though [bANNED TEXT] u tink about it its not best idea.but couldnt see a spray of water putting a dog off really because if it puts ur dog of ur dogs not meant for english or irish weather If that's the case then how would the spray of water stop it barking? Are you for real? If you can't offer solid advice it's probably best to say nothing. Opinion is one thing but you are being damn right stupid. Shock collar when running FFS. I've heard it all. chartpolski 23,678
Basicaly, some people won't entertain a "yapper" for two reasons; 1, they draw unwanted attention; and 2, they can't be giving 100% in the chase if they are barking at the quarry. If you are on permission and don't mind the dog not performing at it's very best, and you are happy with the dog otherwise, then why not enjoy it for what it is ? Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
Floyd17586 454
Gareth daniel are you blind spray collar not shock collar.so if you want to go and make up a place youve been hunting in next you computer hunter Quote Link to post
Floyd17586 454
Also the spray of water works because everytime the dog barks the collars sprays it so the dogs are not thick so they cop on to wots causing it and stop barking simples.do you want me to draw a picture for you. digger. 615
we have a handy rabbit spot on permission went on2 it dog yapped set all the dogs off around the place we havnt been back after that. i no he cant be at his best if yapping and thats what annoys me aswell we all want our dogs to perform at there best and there is noway he can be giving it his all if yapping and he showed that lastnite.i will take him out 2nite see how he gets on no doubt it will be the same im against shock collars never used one and never will there are other ways around tings like that and if they dont work they dont work and i will have 2 bite the bullet.yes he is doing his job and i enjoy seeing him do it but once he opens up it kind of spoils the run Quote Link to post
torchey 1,328
A little yip in frustration on a turn i could live with but a proper yapper would be gone Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Maybe if you think of the dog more as a hound on speed than a lurcher it would help you to cope with the barking Seriously, as long as you aren't working the dog at night where you want silence all round, does it really matter if its only working by day? I once had a screamer: fantastic little dog in cover, small lurcher. She nailed foxes deep in cover or bolted them, ditto rabbits. Couldn't have lived with her if I'd just wanted to lamp her, but as part of a flushing pack by day she was invaluable, and you always knew where she was Quote Link to post
Floyd17586 454
If its ini his breeding mate which it seems to be you may never get him to stop.but if your getting rid makesure its to a pet home..but if you like the dog id try getting him a few soft cqtches build his confidence and try from there.atb whatever you decide to do mate. Chid 6,537
a yapper would have no place in my kennels as i mainly lamp and it would drive me crazy knowing he'd be scaring the rabbits away and not putting 100% into its run but at the end of the day only you can decide if you can cope with the yapping , it dont matter what any of us say as your the one feeding and working the dog 1 Quote Link to post
