Guest norseman
hi folks, does anyone know what size a t bar should be for ferreting? i've made one in work today about 1300mm in length and 12mm in diameter but not sure if its the right length or dia. thanks Quote Link to post
moxy 617
I don't think it matters. Just as long as it penetrates under pressure and doesn't bend too much. Nor weighs a ton. Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Shouldnt matter aslong as it works. A mate has just made me one up about 2 1/2 feet long. Quote Link to post
TOMO 27,147
Something I never bother using,, although I have two made up at home proper stainless jobs,,, one about 2 foot and one about a foot or just over ,,, But to be honest if I were going to use one it would be the shorter length one,, just for pinpointing the tube when you get towards the bottom of a dig 2 Quote Link to post
Stretch177 39
Ive also got 2 that i made from work, one is around 1 1/2ft the other is just over 2ft, but tbh i never use them although i do take one of them with me when i go out. I've found that with using the collars there is'nt really a need for me to have to locate the tunnel, as 9/10 times the finder is bang on Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Im the same a Tomo, have used them a lot over the years just at the end of a dig to locate the tube. Mine are also short about 14 inch. The proper name is a Probe. Quote Link to post
Guest scramble
As above, i use mine in the final stages of digging just to locate the tube. 12 mm is a little too thick IMO, you'd be better with 8/10 mm 2 1/2 feet long would be plenty. SCRAMBLE Quote Link to post
The one 8,524
Theres one here been lying in the garage since i got it never used Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
I use one Its about 18 inches long. Handy for feeling for the rabbit if its pushed further on Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
I have a couple, but the small foot long(currently need rewelding) is fine for using to find a tube in a dig, and sits in the net bag without taking up too much space. Good for pegging a rabbit outside a hole if a ferret still to ground and you have to move on. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Pocket Rocket I would get that probe shortened, mines is similar to Sirius, it fits in the bottom of my bag. Quote Link to post

Its perfect for me right now. Just had a knee op an works like a walking stick maybe get it shortened in the future. Quote Link to post
Guest norseman
thanks for the info lads, yeah i would only be using it to locate the tube near the end of the dig, its not too heavy either so i may jus shorten it Quote Link to post
Tug 168
Weld a ball or nut on the end, so it pushes a larger hole through than the bar. This makes it easier to feel when you pop through the tube because the ground doesn't hold the bar. Quote Link to post
Guest norseman
cheers tug, thats a good idea, i'll get that sorted Quote Link to post
